This is my insert and I was wondering if I needed a thermometer and, if so, where should I put it to get the most reliable readings? Also, what brand or type is a good one?

Thanks,
Rob

The thermometer is just an easy way to gauge how your fire is going. It wouldn't hurt to put one on and see what type of temps you get out of it.

I'd place it dead center on the stove maybe 3 inches in front of the stove pipe. From the pic it doesn't look like you have access to the actual stove pipe... if you do that is probably just as good a place if not better.

Good luck
