Hi, I have been looking at wood inserts for a while now, but keep running into the same problem; I just don't have the clearance for both the top and side facing (wood 3/4" trim). For every insert I have looked at, I am always short even considering a mantle shield. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get around this, besides cutting out the wood, which I don't really want to do!

Here is a pic of my fireplace which shows the wood trim framing the brick. I have to believe this is a common problem, no?

Greetings. What is the opening size of the fireplace? I'm wondering if a flush fireplace like a Lopi Decaration would work here. Or, perhaps a free standing hearth stove with tight rear clearances? If necessary would you be opposed to removing the interior wood trim face?

Opening size is 32" front and 23.5 rear. Height is 27 1/2'. Depth is 20" on bottom and 17' up higher. It gradually slopes up and inward in the rear. I am looking at the Lopi Freedom and possibly the 1750. I may be forced to have someone come in and cut out some of the wood trim face, unfortunately. Not seeing a way around it. Thanks for your reply.

The PE looks nice and meets most clearances. No dealer in my area (Detroit Michigan), so I may be out of luck. Thanks for the suggestions!

Yes, it is amazing that they don't have more dealers in that part of the state. If it is the best solution, the insert could be ordered and installed by a certified WETT chimney sweep in your area.

Might try:

Looks like there is a Quad dealer in Utica
