Had one ton delivered with my stove so didn't know until today when I bought a second ton that PA does not charge sales tax on pellets.

Is this true in the rest of the US?

No sales tax on pellets in NY, at least not today.

Not exactly true. There ARE some towns/counties that DO charge a sales tax on pellets in NY.

See NYS Publication 718-R "Local Sales and Use Tax Rates on Residential Energy Sources and Services"

Scroll down to "Part II".

Pellets are taxed in ohio, as well as heating oil. Currently 6-1/2 or 7% depending on which county of the two I make a purchase as I live almost on the border of the two.

No tax on pellets in wisconsin. :)

Arkansas has not yet figured out they need to be promoting renewables like pellet fuel and are still taxing us on pellets!!! :-(

Maybe someday we will arrive in the 21st Century.

Being new to this, the ton of corn and ton of pellets I bought this year was my first time, and I was shocked to find out there was no tax on either.
When I was at the store getting the pellets, and they rang it up with no tax, I even said to the cashier, "wow, no tax? how did NY miss taxing something?"

It depends on where I purchase in MO if I get taxed. I think it more depends on the registers than the tax laws. I buy in the tax free areas.

Thanks for the reference Mac - I live in suffolk, where the rate is 2-1/2%, but if I buy one county over (Nassau), there is no sales tax. I'm pretty sure I've been mis-charged in the past. I'm gonna print this out and keep it in my truck.

We get taxed in michigan.... can't wait for our governor to be gone.....good riddens...
