I have used Northern (Cubex) pellets for many years now and they have always been the best quality I have used. They still burn hot yet they are not as clean burning this year as in the past. Has any other pellet stove user of Northern (Cubix) noticing the same thing or is it a possible stove issue? The glass on the stove after just a little use is full of ash and you can't see thru it. It isn't the normal grey ash either.

I really want to say what others say, i bought 2 tons of Cubex in Spring at a price that we probably never seen for this brand before, $230/ton, when they're always around the $300 mark.

Jay, u there? Have you tested/burned the ones we bought at BT yet, i don't remember where you posted the results, if you did......

I picked up a ton of Cubex at BT a couple weeks ago. I have burned 4 bags and so far so good. Good heat output, and althought the glass gets a bit dirty, its just a grey film and not really noticable until after two bags or more.

I burned 2 bags of the ton I bought last spring. I didn't see any issue with them. I didn't do a test on ash volume(so no physical comparision geek). I did check the heat and it was just as hot as the batch I tested. Seem fine for me and my stove so, I am saving the rest for the cold weather.

I have never actually done a test sample on the Northern brand. I have burned them and checked temp is about it, But got awesome heat from them . I have heard there the same as Cubex. But maybe they have the different brands for one reason or another? I don't really know for sure. Just going by hear say and that they(the Northern brand) perform very well.

Next time I hit BT Ent, in Bristol. I will see if I can get 2 bags of teh Northern and add them to my test. I might even burn the Cubex I have stashed. I am curious on how long they will last as far as burn time. What do you think??

All I know is the Cubex have a dominant Oak smell to them. What do the Northerns smell like?

I got a quote from the company (Stove Depot in Rutland VT) that I'm looking at getting a PF100 from. They quoted me $1965 for 8 tons of Northern Hardwood delivered from about an hour away. Would these be the Cubex you all are talking about?? If so that works out to less than $250 a ton delivered. That dont sound so bad.

I would be absolutely sure before you get 8 tons. There's a pellet called Great Northern out of New Hampshire that used to be called something else. I picked up a couple bags but haven't tried them. They are a softwood, so I'm sure it's not the same, but I would make sure.

Northern (Cubex) pellets can be different kinds of wood other than just oak. Depends on what type of flooring they are making at the time. Oak and Maple tend to be the most common from what we get. The oak pellets by far have the least ash but the heat out of the different woods stays the same in my stove. We had a batch of yellow birch once I liked the smell of them but they didn't burn as clean as the oak. A trick if you want oak buy the 1.5 ton pallet if they have it it is your best bet for oak pellets.

I emailed the contact at the Stove Depot and he said that they were Cubex under the Northern name.
