I finally made a commitment and i am really excited about it. We're getting the Greenfire insert, which apparently is a clone of the Enviro. Very excited that the dealer will install on Monday and we don't have a month long wait. Now we just have to get pellets and learn how to live with our new stove! I am doing my pellet research now - anyone with this insert want to tell me what they like? i thought that choosing the stove was going to be the hard part -- who knew there were so many choices with pellets!?!? thanks for all the feedback!

Burn Time Ent. in Bristol has some GREAT pellets for around $240-250/ton. Hamers, Cubex, Okies, Juniata, & Spruce Pointe would be on my VERY GOOD PELLETS short list.

Oh, and you should check your local Lowes....some store are selling Somersets for around $230....another great pellet.

Congrats on the new toy!

Don't forget to post a picture when she is up and burning for us! :) We love looking at stoves. The GFi55 should treat you well.

imacman gave you a good list to start with and I would like to add Barefoots and Turmans. BT Ent is a nice place to get pellets in CT. We also have CT pellet in Torrington who will treat you well. I will be going to Blakeslee Pellet Depot in Middletown this weekend to try PWI brand, along with Westwood and Country pine. I will let you know how they seem. We also have CJ's in enfield but I haven't purchase from them. Another place on Bloomfield that has just started last season call Tristate Pellets. There is also Long Pond Pellets in Wauregan. We have lots of places in CT to gather heat. Here is some other links to check out!

Enjoy the new stove!

I just had the same stove installed last weekend, it's burning as we speak (Okie's) and the house is toasty. I'm also trying to get use to the different heat ranges and such. Have it on a thermostat. Wish you luck, I also purchased because I liked the Enviro Meridian so much. Goodluck....

thanks for the advice all! would you recommend trying a few different bags before buying a ton?
iamsoexcitediamsoexcitediamsoexcited! like only a girl from the adirondacks living in ct could be! my husband just dosn't see what so exciting about a new stove!

Yes, Its a good rule to follow as best you can. All stoves tend to burn a bit different and What is great for me. Might not be all that good for you.

Glad your so excited. I feel that way at the start of every heating season. And looking for pellets too! The Mrs. thinks I'm coo-coo and she might be right? hehe! :)

Okay, pics tomorrow after the install.

Here's what i got for pellets:
Stove Chow - Home Depot $3.92/bag, $196/ton
Greenway - Lowes $3.92/bag, no ton pricing noticed
Hamers Hot Ones - Blakelee's - $5/bag, $250/ton
New England - Blakelee's - $5/bag, $239/ton **Was this one a mistake?!

So, what the heck am i trying to figure out when we fire up? There's an awful lot of variables - New stove, inexperienced operator, multiple pellets... What kind of results am i trying to look at?

All 4 brands should do OK for you. You have to start some where, But first thing is get used to the stove and how to adjust it. If you have issues will talk you thru it. When the installer gets there. Let him finish getting it all connected and then pick his brain if he has experience with this stove. He will set the draft on the first pellet you try(He should use a gauge called a magnehilic). Watch him closely. You might not need to touch the draft after that because the stove adjust it for each feed/heat setting. But its good to know how. Learn to start and shut it down. Ask him how to clean it(very important) and what the recommend cleaning schedule is for the stove. Also read the maintenance section of the manual. It will have clean details as well.

The you can start playing with pellets. You want the hottest, cleanest pellet you can afford. Some use the back of there hands and others use both cheeks(rump). Some get fancy with thermometers(me included). Next is how clean. You want the least amount of ash because it will give you longer runs when its real cold. Make sure don't produce clinkers(hard lumps in the burnpot). Then the cash factor. Probably best to start with the cash factor if your strapped for cash.

Rumor has it that Agway is selling Hamers in their own bags. I couldnt get my local store to own up to that but I grabbed 5 bags of them and NEWP to try out in my Whitfield Profile 20 FS stove. I burned Maines last year and scary as this is to say they were the best I had burned to that point. By the time I'd get home from work (about 13+ hours) I'd have INCHES of ash in my stove. The agway pellets after 24 hours I would have needed a micrometer to measure the ash levels and I thought the heat output was incredible with a nice even flame and little to no crud build up in the burn pot. I have not been nearly as impressed with the NEWP overall. Heat is very good still and I must give them credit for minimal ash but I'm not getting a very complete burn in pot. I may have just not tweaked the air flow to optimize for the NEWP's yet so not writing them just for that.

Of course that is me and my stove YMMV but I'd pop for the Hamer's if I had the choice. Enjoy the new toy!!
