i just picked up a fisher honey bear insert that i am going to use as a freestander. the problem is the flu measures 7 1/2" in diameter making it hard to find a adapter. my chimney is double wall 6", i have looked everywhere for a specific adapter for this stove. any help?

There isn't a specific adapter for the Fisher Insert. I have the exact same unit & bolted a cast iron stove top adapter to accept a 8" sst liner 17' staight up. I think that a 7" would work also, they are available online that bolt to the top. You will have to provide a relief for the damper control rod to pass under, then try & find a 6" - 7" sst increaser to attach to the stove top adapter. I'm not sure how well a 6" liner will work with the Fisher Insert

Had the same problem with my Fisher insert stove when I converted it to free standing. The easy way out is to get a piece of 8 inch pipe welded to the top of the stove. My metal shop guy told me that heavy wall 6 inch and heavy wall 8 inch pipe is common but 7 inch anything is rare and would be very hard to find. We used 8 inch because that gave us enough room to make a new air tight damper above the stove in the new pipe. Than you can hook to your liner easy . If the liner is 6 inch or seven inch you can get a adapter with no problem. I went from 8 inch to 7 inch and the adapter was about 35 dollars. I had to use a 7 inch oval liner because of tile restrictions in my old chimney. The stove draws fine and never smokes in the house even though the chimney is a little short. Works good, David

jacksnipe- can you send me a link for the cast iron adapter?

after doing some research i found a metal fabrication shop that specializes in this type of work. i called and they said they would have it on my doorstep no later then monday for 25.00 dollars shipped! i would highly recomend this shop for folks with ideas or needs that require "special" adapters or anything metal for that matter. they were very nice to deal with and understood exactly what i wanted without talking to four people. thanks for all the advice and hopefully this will help with any future needs.

Weezer,

any updates on this ? did you get the adaptor ? I have a fisher insert lined up for dirt cheap, but I am hesitant on buying it in fear of not finding an adaptor.

any pics ?

Thanks

redrig, I wouldn't base the purchase on making an adapter. Woodmans has 7 inch pipe, reducers and increasers in that size and even round to oval for around smoke shelfs. I bought a pair of hand crimpers from them years ago and found you can over-crimp pipe easily to the size you want.
