I can get new Maine Woods Pellets delivered for 199 a ton if i buy 3 ton of them. The guy will unload them by hand.

Im really on a tight budget this year

Last year i used Penningtons from walmart which burnt alright in my englander stove.

the 199s are the cheapest price delivered i have seen

they also have Okanagan Pellets for 260 delivered

Has anyone here tried the new maine woods pellets i know when they first started everyone said they sucked big time.

Thoughts?

The guy selling them in Jay Maine said this

We burnt them in our shop from the middle of March until the end of May and found that they burned clean and hot, but not as clean as the Okies. The ash rating is .03, moisture content is .06 and the BTU's are 8700. They are tested twice a day at the factory and independently tested as well.

Sound like they are worth the shot, May get 3 ton of those and a ton of the Okies

Is 260 a good price for a ton of Okies?

Just remember......a dealer is NOT going to say much bad about ANY pellet he is trying to sell, even if they are crap. Do you think the dealers who sold Infernos last winter told their customers they were junk??? I think not!

IMO, buy AT MOST 1 ton to try....if it were me, I'd get 5-10 bags and burn them first to find out. You don't want to buy 3 tons just to find out they burn terrible in your stove.

The Oakies at $260 isn't the best price I've seen, but it isn't too bad....great pellet though. I wouldn't hesitate buying them by the ton.

Chris04626,

$260 a ton for Okanagans is not a bad price for this area especially if that includes delivery.

I had a long telephone conversation with the dealer who was pushing the new Maine Woods. I wanted Okanagans, he was pushing the Maine Woods .. . HARD.

Went with Okanagans from a different dealer. ( Including the delivery, I paid a little more, but the service was excellent and they were willing to sell two even tons, not two full pallets.)

My suggestion to co-workers who are looking at purchasing Maine Woods is to split their order ( as you were thinking ) and use the Maine Woods in the shoulder seasons and Okanagans in the December, January, February months.

The prices always depend upon location. I can get them a bit cheaper here in CT.

I have heard the latest offering from MWP is a Super Premium grade. But that price is below what I see for Super premiums. Still waiting for my local to get some to test!

What would you do buy 4 ton of the maine wood pellet at 199 each or buy 3 ton of them and one of the Okanagans at 260? And these prices are delivered and hand unloaded from Jay Maine to Cutler Maine

My vote is also to split your order.

Be sure to update us on your experiences with the MWP pellets later this heating season.

as others say, good to split the order.
dont get stuck with all mwp, i would think your stove can burn softwood or hardwood,
just get premium. cant go wrong with okies, barefoot, but be leery of mwp.

i was stuck with five miserable tons of early mwp's , and celebrated when i burnt the last bag !
yes, i know their formula changed, but after using lignetics and greene team, i would have a very
hard time going back to mwp !
that is.. unless they are $140 / ton delivered ..

I have placed my order for 3 ton of MWP at 199 per ton and 2 ton of Oakies at 260 a ton Delivered. Will definatley
let you know how these MWP burn as it wont be long before i will need to start burning them.

Checked with my local dealer and they wanted 260 a ton for the Maine Wood Pellets WOW

Anyone know of a good somewhat ash vac i can order somewhere. Been using a shop vac with a bag filter attached it's terrible.

just fired up today with the new batch of MWP, from all the sparking when the auger is running I would have to say it is no different than last years batch. for me the sparks mean lots of ash in the firebox.
and the ash in the fire box already is just from the few min. I have been running today.

flying embers or flying pellets?

embers, from the high fines dust in the pellets, they get blown up by the air being forced in through the burn pot under the fire

Im burning some MWP pellets this week that i picked up at Tractor Supply..They seem to be not as compressed (break apart easier in your fingers) as some ive been burning of late. Ive had to run my stove up on 7-7 to get the same amount of heat.(295 between the middle heat tubes above the door<with my IR gun)...also they have stacked up in the hopper opening 5-6 times in 2 days causing the stove to go out.. I think alot of that is caused by a majority of them being longer then the Green Team and GreenWay pellets the stove was tuned with(hopper plate is set at smallest opening)..Tomorrow im gonna clean and Pledge the hopper, open the hopper plate some and try again...Anybody else think they are a little crumbly?

Crumbly is caused by too high a moisture content.

here is NEWP same stove same settings, after I ran the auger and hopper dry and cleared the burn pot before feeding in the NEWP
the ash is from one week of MWP, notice the difference in the flames

Another vote for a split order.

Love to hear the feedback on the new MWP from all users!

They are awesome for the price. The ash is a bit more than a cubex or a turman but the heat and the price ... + awesome! have you done any tests? recently?

interesting the bag you show in your pictures is not the same one I have, the overall print is the same however my bags have no color they are only black on white, I wonder why the third type of bag, last year was the green and white, this spring was all black on white, now you have orange, red and green...
check this thread, post #70 for another typed of bag
