I just finished installing the thermostat, snaked the wire, connected to the stove and nothing. I connected the wires according to the stats manual for a heating only 2 wire system millivolt system. Does it matter which wire goes to which terminal on the rear of the stove?

1. Is the stove plugged in?
2. Is the stove turned on?
3. Is there a "thermostat" position on the stove switch?
4. If 3 is "yes", is it set to it?
5. Is the thermostat set to a high enough temp to call for heat?

Those are the first things to check, based upon my experience.

Yes to all of the above. The stove works fine in manual position. The t-stats manual for two wire systems is G for fan and W1 for heater. I hooked up one wire to each. There is also a jumper wire between RH and RC, I left this connected. Then I put spade connectors on each wire and pushed them onto the two prongs on the back of the stove. Does this sound like I did something glaringly wrong?

If you touch the two wires together that come from the back of the stove, does the stove start firing? If it does, then
your issue is with the thermostat. If it doesn't, then check the wires for continuity/bad connectors. You will need a multimeter or
continuity tester. Check for continuity between the terminals on the thermostat when it calls for heat. Make sure all pin switches are set correctly.

There isn't any wires on the back of the stove, just spade connections. I guess I could jump the spade connections to see if it starts. I will use the multimeter and test the wires. I am guessing the problem lies with the tstat. The problem is both the stove and the tstats manuals are very vague.

Hi Kevin, I think on your t-stat you need to use the RH and the W terminals. Not the G. That is for a furnace fan only I believe. I saw your pic of the stove in the other thread. Looks fantastic. Like anything else it might take awhile to get the bugs out of it.

SM,

what is x2? If I use rh should I remove the jumper wire between rh & rc?

Means he agrees with The Radiator.

Good luck!!!

edit: Looking at the T-stat manual, Option 1 appears to leave the jumper in place

Kevin you can leave the jumper in or take it out. It would be needed if you had cooling equipment controlled with the stat also. The jumper would be connecting low voltage thru to the cooling portion of the t-stat. The stat should have a selector switch on the front, Heat or Cool, switch it to heat mode and it will use the RH + W terminals.

Hi Kevin, when you hooked up the stat, did you push the start button on the unit to initialize the circuit board, the circuit board on this unit has a thermostat lockout until the exhaust temp sensor closes approximately15 mins, then the unit will run in manual mode for another 15 mins before releasing control to the stat, if you have your stat set at 72 and the stat becomes satisfied then the unit will go to low idle for 15 mins and the stat is locked out again if no call for heat it will start its shut down and when the exhaust temp sensor opens it is off unless the stat called for heat before that sensors opened it will go right back into a new start cycle and not shut down. As far as t/stats go I would recommend just a simple 2 wire mechanical millivolt heat only stat.

i just installed the lux 500e.left the jumper in place that came with stat, red wire to rh and white wire to w.works like a charm.

We have ignition! You guys are great. Thanks once again.

The Millivolt two wire install i did said to Pull the jumper out..... Seems like you got it figured out. Love This Forum.. You Guys Rock!!!!

I did read that Harman stoves require the jumper to be removed, that is why I asked about the wire.

i pulled mine out of the stove but left the jumper in the t-stat as per instructions.after running the stove on manual up to now i looking forward to playing around with the t-stat

As mentioned above, the jumper wire should be removed since the stat will be used for "Heat" setting only.
