I've been looking at getting the piping for my pellet stove and found you are supposed to use pl vent piping. I read on this site:
http://www.stovetown.com/PelletStoveVenting.html

that you could use other types.

I went to my local hardware store and they had piping that was double walled, stainless steel on the inner wall, rated up to 600 degrees, however it is not pellet stove piping. It is 3 inch pipe which is the size i need as well. Would this work?

Pellet vent is very specific.

There are a couple of Manufacturers of the stuff.

This pipe is rated for pellet stove use and is double wall construction. The newer stuff has built in silicone O ring seals.

Here is a link to the Simpson site, There are other makers but have a look at this.

Your local stove shops can set you up with waht you need, ORRRRRRRR you can snoop around your area and probably find a wholesaler that is hungry and will sell the stuff directly to you at a very good price.

I have used a local wholesaler. They have one brand that they supply their dedicated retailers with and another brand that they do not.

I was able to buy the product that the local retailers did not handle.

Same quality just another brand was all but at less than 1/2 the retail price.

I used the simpson duravent on mine.

Be sure you check with your local building dept to get up to speed on the regs in your area too.

You may have been looking at Gas vent pipe (type B) and not pellet vent (type L). If you are sure the inner liner is stainless then it is likely Pellet as gas uses aluminum. Mike -

I think they said it was some kind of water heating pipe.

2x use only pipe meant for pellet stoves, remember it is your life and property that is at risk!

3x, and if that stove allows any corn to be mixed with the pellets you need venting rated for corn.

Do not fool around when it comes to venting that puppy. It must be able to withstand the temperatures and any of the corrosive byproducts that may be produced by the fuel you burn.

Failure to heed the advice given in the installation manual can cost you your life.

sounds like ur doing a self-install? (Cool) Use the proper supplies.

1 big tip ( ur owners manual will say the same thing) NEVER have a connection in your wall thimble..... solid piece all the way through.

Good Luck.... Oh... and have Fun...

Its already going through the roof where the wood stove used to be.

Thanks for all the replies. Ill just buy the pellet stove piping from someone online. The install shouldn't be to difficult since i just have to connect the piping to the existing exit and into the stove.
