Hey guys, first post.

I am considering a buck model 21 which does not come with a blower. My question is, does the optional blower function just like the ones that are standard on other models? I am womdering if the add on is more of an afterthought and less effecient than the standard models. I don't really know how either of the blowers work since I don't yet own a wood stove, just trying to get my head on straight.

If I remember correctly the blower for that stove did help a good deal with the convection heat it produced.
 
If the blower is optional, then it's just a matter of whether they ship the stove with a blower kit or not. The blower is going to be installed in the field in either case. It's going to be the same whether you buy the stove with the blower, or pick up the blower later. The stoves would be built and crated all the same: without the blower. Then if the customer wants the blower option, they add a second small box with the blower.

Just know this: you'll get a lot more heat with the blower.

Thanks for the info, that's exactly what I wanted to know. Is the blower something you could at after installing the insert into a fireplace, or would you have to remove the insert to add the optional blower?
 
I have a Buck 21 and the blower is in front. I think you could install and add the blower later if you want, but why? The blower does an AWESOME job! It puts out the heat very nicely, and I personally don't think it's too loud, at least at the lower end, which is all I need. Add a ceiling fan to the mix in my high ceiling room and I have heat evenly distributed. Hope you enjoy your stove!
 
I have a Buck 91 and the blower is in the front as well. It produces a huge amount of heat with the blower on. I am not using it much just yet but when it gets cold and stays cold it will be great.
I would definitely get the blower.
 
I just had my Model 21 installed last week and the blower wouldn't fit in after we installed the stove DOH!!!! so we had to lift the front like a 1/2" to get it to fit. So I would put it in before you install the stove, and from what I have read and talked to people, they all recommend getting the blower.
