I went to the local Lowes to pick up 2 ton this morning. Last week they were at $219/ton and had Greene Teams and Potomacs in stock. This morning they were $297 a ton. Plus the "gentleman" told me "you get what we give you".

I promptly walked out and will be looking for pellets somewhere else. I am sure for that price I can find some better brands, and the attitude will certainly make me think again before going to them for pellets.

Any suggestions for good brands local to Worcester/Framingham area that are a reasonable price?

Thanks!

do you have a HD in your area? if so try the price match POLICY that both stores have and you will not only get it for the HD price but also with another 10% off..... at least its worth a try!!!!

If some Bed bug at the store told me you get what we GIVE U, I would have had nothing better to do then go and complain that your attitude S**KS
In today's economy everybody is trying to save.

I do have an HD local as well. I'll look into what they're charging. Last I knew, they had the Freedom Fuel and were at a very similar price to the local Lowes.

As to the guy's attitude; it shows me that they really don't know anything about the pellets they sell and that they don't care.

As usual, it's buyer beware. If you don't watch out for yourself, no one else will.

Thanks for the suggestions.

My experience with Lowes in Torrington CT. was very positive. I was able to look at what was available and when I asked for Stove Chow, They promptly brought the ton out to me. They were willing to hand load the bags into the truck for me too! They had 3 guys handy and they were ready to work! I might have bummed them out when I said it was fine to just put the whole pallet in the truck!~

I would have went straight to the manager if there was any bad attitude!

Wondering if i should buy another ton before my HD raises the price!, saw maybe 6 tons of chow and 20+ ton's of freedom this morning, get's to the point do i fill my 2.5 car garage and put the car's out in snow/ice?

Im sitting here wondering why so many folks think that Lowe's and Home Despot are their only choices for places to purchase pellets? Howzabout a local pellet dealer? Personally, I'd wonder why there was such an increase in price, since the wholesale price HAS NOT INCREASED.......hm.....your buddies at Lowes possibly seeing the fuel price climb and taking advantage of that fact?

. . . get’s to the point do i fill my 2.5 car garage and put the car’s out in snow/ice?

My suggestion is, put wife's car out in snow/ice and fill that space plus the .5 ( of the 2.5 car garage) with pellets.

Ranger

P.S. OK . . . OK . . . .So I would never get away with that . . . . I can dream . . . .

I understand what you mean about the local pellet retailers. That's where we got ours last year and likely where I'll be going again this year. But the local guys weren't at the $219 price. Plus, the Greene Teams are a fairly good pellet. Now that that option no longer exists, I'm going to be looking around for the best deal.

Thanks
Ray

I am not putting up with that crap any more ,if they don't have what I want I will look until I find a better place . If you have some spare time write a letter to the manager of that store . Some pellets don't work in my stove ,I don't get enough heat out of them ,and they carbon up the chimney . If they have what you want but are to lazy to bring them out for you ,they need to get a little static .

Why not store the pellets out side under a tarp . Burn those first so they are gone by spring . Keep the cars in the garage .

.5 part has 3 tons, could fit another but no room for snoblower!, last weekend i was installing a new engine on the old Ariens and had to leave her car out on monday morning only to wake up with 1/2" of slush on her car, she wasn't too happy as i drove off to work nice and dry!

I am sure the local retailer has a pellet that can run with or out preform the Greene Teams. Probably can match or beat the $297 price tag too. I want all my pellet options to remain! I support My pellet house's first and for most. They have the best brands on the market and treat them better. yes I do buy a little from the bigbox, Because its an option. But never the whole supply. I can guarantee the pellet house will have pellets in stock come late winter, early spring if you are running low. The bigbox will swap them out for lawn furniture. They could careless if you don't have enough heat to finish the season. Spread your wealth to the little guy as you just might need him someday!

What a good laugh? Ask a sales rep at the bigbox what a good pellet is. Most will just give you a blank stare or tell you a tale! Make sure you share the tale so we can all get a chuckle! :)

lowes is still selling summersets for 5.95 a bag. dont think the price will come down here. They have been at that price snice Aug. Helps to shop around, I went to that same store and was able to get them for 3.33 per bag.

Thanks for the suggestions.

The one on Lincolns St? I was there a few days ago and picked up some Clean Energy and Stove Chow for $4.38/bag ($219/ton equivalent). The two guys who helped me find them out in the garden center I wouldn't say were experts, but they weren't totally clueless. They at least knew there was a difference between hardwood and softwood. :)

If you are right about the price increase, I too would be disappointed. There would be no reason for it. You can get super premium pellets in the area for well less than $297/ton.

It's not that they are the only place. At least here in the Worcester area, Lowes and HD have (or at least had) the cheapest price that I had found and if you could get a fairly decent pellet like Stove Chow, it is a pretty good deal. I'd prefer to support my local small dealer, but sometimes you can't ignore the price difference.

True, sometimes the price difference is too large to ignore......the difference is just sujective to each of us.....I know some folks who require you to be the cheapest price within a 100 mile radius, otherwise, "you just arent competitive'....maybe just a sign of the times.....

Although, i would be willing to be t that you can find a local dealer who sells premium (or superpremuim) pellets for less the $297/ton!

And that's exactly why I didn't buy them when I was there.

This was the Lowes in Milford. I've actually usually been very pleased with their customer service, but there are always a few....

I just bought a ton of heaters soft wood pine at HD $200.00 plus 10% off with Lowell coupon they burn good and have good heat burned them last year.
Lowell there $4.85 a bag $242.50 ton
Only one other place here besides wally Worlds $5.00 bag $250.00 ton
and they want $289.00 ton can't buy less than 1/2 ton.

Remember what the price of pellets did 2 years ago when the price of gas and home heating oil when up. Well, don't be surprised by what you are seeing in those higher pellet prices. Gas here is $3.00 a gallon with no reason for the increase other than they can. Setting oil prices sort of reminds me of that old joke, Where does an elephant sit? Reply: Anywhere he wants. You see so many postings from people questioning if they should buy more than they need for the current heating season. Depends on how much game playing you are willing to participate in. The more you put away at prices you feel are reasonable, the less game playing you'll have to do.

Try the Sam's club or Wal-Mart in your area.

Thanks for the suggestion on the HD price matching. We did exactly that today and actually turned the original statement back in their face. We had them match the HD price, plus the extra 10%. They then promptly told us that they don't add the 10% unless it is an exact match for the item, and that Lowes has a better pellet than HD. That's when we brought up the original statement that they can't guarantee any particular brand. ("You'll take what we give you") So instead of getting the pellets for $219, we got them for $199/ton. We ended up getting 3 1/2 tons and saved big.

I'm much happier today.

Thanks for all of the help!
