I also get coals in the gasification chamber, obiviously they can only be smaller than the width of the slot to fall down. I think the majority of my ash is actaually coals that have fallen thru, not the nice fine powdery stuff. Don't think there is any way to stop this.

Check the Eko tuning sticky to get your burn set right. That was a great help to me last winter during my first burns.

There is allot of info there you will have to sort through. It will pay to read it though.

Things that can lead to coals in the bottom are boiler idle, green or high moisture content wood, or your air mixture. There is much discussed about air mixture in the sticky. A sticky is a topic that held such good information that it remains at the top of each thread forever. It is stuck at the top.

If you have storage and you are getting coals you might be going into an extended idle time once the house has no heat demand and your storage is charged. If so try a little less wood per load or let your storage be a bit cooler before you start your next burn cycle. Additionally, it has been mild weather recently and outdoor temperatures can really effect your burn cycles. If you do not have storage and your boiler goes into idle, particularly early in the burn, a gasser can have a hard time returning to gassification when the fans start back up again.

I have coals as well drop down through the nozzles, this is because I use a countdown timer on my fans. I usually start the timer around 6 hours so that power is cut off to my fans. I do this to be sure I have some upper chamber coals left to start my next burn. This does result in some coals falling down to the bottom chamber. I have a metal pan that I put these coals in and return them to there upper chamber home for a "recycle" :)
