Pics of wood haul from this weekend

My girl spotted a tree that was down that we should check out. I drove by one afternoon and decided that I should go back with the truck and the saw. It turned out to be 2 trees (oak and maple) that had fallen by the road and apparently the road crews cut the tops off and removed all of the trees until they were about 15 feet from the edge. Both trees were really big, and were appx 20 inches in diameter at the base. It looks like the maple fell into the oak and brought it down also? Since they had been cut on it was hard to tell, but we got all that was worth bringing. There was enough for 2 heavy loads to bring home. I am thankful to have a girl that scopes out wood to go scavenge and most importantly, HELPS me get it!

Yeah, the truck is a keeper... I am lucky to have it! Just kidding... My helper is not bad to have around either. Maybe she will buy me a diamond one day. I am holding out for a big rock. I am not a cheap groan, so she really needs to get me the bling if she plans on putting a ring on this finger!

The license plate on the front is an old plate I found about a week after I bought the truck. I found it while I was poking around in an old barn. Since I found it so soon after I got the truck and it was the same year as the truck is (1977) so I figured it had to go on there. Since it is on the front it does not matter in my state. Actually they have an exclusion here so you can run plates like that on the rear of a classic vehicle which it will be in another year or so. You just have to carry the correct plate inside the vehicle I believe. I looked a long time to find that truck. I am familiar with those trucks, and for a certain time period they were available with a nearly bullet proof drive train in them. It has a 350 engine with the Muncie SM465 3 speed manual with granny low and NP205 cast iron transfer case. Back then the thansfer cases were still gear drive instead of chain drive like later models, and were really tough as was that particular transmission. It is also a 3/4 ton with the heavy brakes, a 14 bolt rearend with detroit locker, and dana 44 front with 4:10 gears. It is not very fast, but has terriffic pulling power. It is hard to find a 30+ year old truck with all the drive train options you want! I finally found it about 3 hours from here and hauled it home on a trailer behind my suburban. I paid 850 dollars for it. I had to install a new engine and sort out a lot of other issues, but it is coming along. I do not think there is a truck built today as solid as those were then.
