Kind of looking for something for my garage workshop, wouldn't use it much maybe a dozen or so times a winter.

If you are only heating 12 times a winter consider an electric heater - by time you buy/build a proper chimney for a stove you will be out a wad of cash. Sure electricity is not cheap but it will take a long time to recoup your investment in a stove for such minimal use. Just my 2c.

However if you are going to go the stove route I'd look for an EPA stove in good condition - bound to be some on CL sometime.

For quick heat in a garage I use a kerosene heater. $200 or less from HD or Lowes, runs for hours on a self contained tank, and contains a thermostat. I think 75K BTUs.

+ a dozen on that. Our sole heat source is wood, except in the garage. That kero torpedo has that place warm in a heartbeat.

Garage already has a chimney, the previous owner had a wood stove in there. All I would need would be a stove, just wondering if this would be a good option for the $250.

Looks like an early Lopi. Should heat about four garages just fine. Of course you are looking at around a hundred and change for the glass. But it is a fireplace insert.

No. Replacing the "glass" would increase your cost beyond what it is worth.

For outdoor use only. I wouldn't recommend using it in a garage unless you want asphyxiate yourself.

I was kidding.

Humm… If you absolutely want to have a wood stove in your garage, and this is something you’re only going to use a few times every winter or so, you’re better to get a brand new « cheap » stove instead of an use anyways. Make sure you look for a free standing stove instead of an insert… otherwise you’ll lose some radiation heat there!

I was kidding.

Mine is smaller but has been trying to kill me out there in that garage for twenty five years and hasn't succeeded yet.

For a new EPA stove after tax credit this one is only $420. http://www.amfmenergy.com/50tnc13----epa-certified-noncatalytic-wood-stove--1850131801.html A well regarded stove.
Until the tax credit is gone, its almost not worth buying used, unless its next to free and nearly new. I picked up 2 used stoves 2 years ago. One was free and the other $275, both EPA. The same stove I got for $275 some one else had listed on Craig's list last week for $800!!! Happy hunting.

Mine has been at it for about 20, but I will admit, I leave the garage doors up about 6" when running it, mostly because otherwise it would be 90°F and climbing in the garage in about 10 minutes. If I am going to be out there all day, I usually fire up the Keroheater http://www.google.com/products/cata...og_result&ct=result&resnum=3&ved=0CDQQ8wIwAg# works good, just not "quick"..
