Just got a Pacific Super 27 stove for our house and had two guys quote us on installing it.

One guy said $1,000 and the other guys said $500 both parts and labor.

One guy is obviously using cheap pipe and the other is either using really good pipe or he has marked it way up.

I had talked to the place where we bought the stove from and they said that the cheaper guy must have quoted menards pipe.

Is the cheaper pipe bad stuff?

It the expensive pipe really worth the extra $400-$500?

Thanks.

The cheap guy is probably making less money, AND may be using lower cost parts. Why don't you just ask him what kind of pipe he's using? Ask the expensive guy what kind of pipe he uses.

What's the brand of better pipe?

Also is the better pipe insulated (it really should be)

$500.00 sounds very low for materials included. The $1000.00 sounds like more what I would expect to hear. I easily spent around $500.00 on materials---->Supervent brand chimney pipe at Lowe's (10 feet of it), 22 gauge single wall 70" slip stove pipe (HeatFab) and the Supervent support kit.

Do you know how tall your chimney will be?

Have you considered doing it yourself? If it is a straight run, it is really not all that hard to do.

Both quotes are on the low side unless this is a very easy install with a short flue. Give us some more details about what is being bid on here.

You're going to be creating a fire inside your house- replace "cheap" with "safe" as your primary concern.
