Saw the post on the old tools with the 2-man timber saw and it got me wondering -- are there
wood sawing/chopping competitions out there? That would be fun.

Yes.

Many County Fairs will have them. Regional and nationals as well.

I highly recommend them. Can be fun watching.

Stihl timbersports The average joe can enter but you have to be damn good. Cabelas occassionaly as some "lumberjack" competitions. I remember seeing something at TSC or farm and fleet a few years ago not sure if they still do. Ask some of your neighborhood wood burners. Maybe you guys could throw in a cord of wood to the winner

Anyone who has ever used one knows the "team work" involved in them.

a few years ago my son and I were at a boy scout camp in Columbus. They had a 2 man saw for the visitors to try. After a few minutes of getting the rhythm down my son and I managed to make it thru a maple log approx 16" in diameter. We had a small crowd cheering for us when we finished.

Boy thats when men were men, about kicked my a$$

We need a member meet/competition one so all the girls currently using FSS can see they're meant for shaving, not splitting wood :coolsmirk:

I'm heading to a fall fair on Saturday, and there will be a wood stacking competition. Three man teams - stacking time and neatness are judged. I'd be a contender, but I don't have 2 others to enter with - I'll just be watching. Cheers!

There was a small competition at my county fair in Ontario many years back. My grandfather (close to 70 at the time) & another oldtimer walked into the 2 man cross-cutting competition and won handily against the bigger, younger local guys. The old guys had used those saws back in the day & stepped right into the rhythm off the first pull. The young guys were trying to hurry & muscle through, not paying enough attention to each other & basically making a mess of it. It was damned funny to watch & taught a lesson about strength & youth being no substitute for experience. Of course they donated the prize money back to the fair commitee 'cause that's just what you do. I was impressed to say the least

That's an awesome story! Would love to try out one of the 2man timber saws sometime. Being out in the dead of winter
with snow on the ground would top off the experience.
