Finally! It's 33 and dropping here in NWNJ and the furnace has been cruising for a little over 2 hours now with the house at a toasty 70 degrees. This is the first time I've had it really burning full out since the beginning of the season. Nice full moon to light the way to the woodshed too.

Here too I've had ice in the chicken's water the last two mornings.

Badfish I took this picture coming up the driveway, 27 up north.

More cold coming. We are starting to see the first big Canadian waves sinking into the area.

I think next week the temps are going to drop right now it's kinda mild weather.

I don't know, but there's just something wrong about wishing for cold weather so one can start a fire. I like warm weather and conserving wood and other fuels. Thanksgiving will be plenty soon to start fires. (Truth be told, I did really enjoy lighting a fire during a cold spell about a week or so ago.)

Got my secondaries going strong with an overnight load. Yeah, I could conserve my wood for the coming nights when it gets well down in the 20s. But I think I am set for the winter with three cords - 2 oak, 1 sugar maple. If its getting down to 32, especially on the weekends, my stove is hot. This is about my 8th fire of the fall.

Looks like mild weather is back till about Thanksgiving. Then it looks like we will be getting some 20's overnight. Around late February, I will be hoping for the weather to start warming up. But right now, I am ready for whatever comes our way.

Tonight is the coldest yet this season for me. It's currently 13 and the weather man is calling for 9 for a low tonight. Just saw the extended forcast and thanksgiving day he's calling for a low of -6! That's gonna call for a good fire.

38 and headed down a bit more. Four big'uns in the 30 and it is doing its thing. 72 down stairs and 70 up. Getting close to bedtime.

25 °F here tonight.

The PE is still heating the house, it's 65 °F in the Dixettes abode, and it's 34 °F outside right now. .

Can I make fried green tomatoes off of fruits that have just fell? No "icey" spots ?

It's 29° here.

I'll just take this time to reiterate how different the Intrepid is burning when compared to last year. Night and day since the rear heat shield was removed. Amazing.

28* outside. 70* through out most of the house 66* in my bedroom (which is the trickiest room to heat). So thankful for wood heat. I just loaded six splits of oak and locust for an overnight burn. I haven't heard my oil burner go on at all tonight. I am very curious what my oil bills will be this year compared to years past.

Were at 28 degrees and dropping at midnight. First really good burning night.

I wish we had most of your low temps for a high right now! It's 2* right now, it got up to 15* yesterday afternoon.

I covered the geraniums in the windowboxes with heavy towels last night. I have wanted to bring some in for the winter, but may have missed the window of opportunity for that project. It was really chilly last night and I'm about to go outdoors with that fool dog, so I'll get a first hand reminder of cold weather shortly! (note to self: put a new battery in the thermometer on the sideboard).

But it's just fine with me. It'll be a fine day to make draperies in my shop with the stove radiating warmth and the dog keeping a watchful eye on things. I may even find the resident pride will want to take up their places in their "shop beds".

The big dog woke me @6 this morning, so I stayed up and got a fire going. It's now at a little over 650. Amazing how little air is needed to keep the fire going.
Going to the low 20's tonight, so it may be 24/7 soon.

I was surprised that it wasn't chillier this morning. The fool dog and I walked all around the yard and I filled the woodbox in the workroom and rekindled the Classic. It's definitely hat weather, though! It doesn't take much to get her revved up, you're right Papa.. But I'd best move the on the geraniums today because the cold is going to drop into the area this weekend.

36 now with high of 39 forecast, but it is sunny. A couple days of really warm weather forecast now followed by reality once more.

You know where you live. Winter hasnt even started yet, so suck it up.
You should put a wood stove in that place of yours. ;-P

First cold night here in the Lower Hudson Valley. It was high 20s this am and the car windows were frosted up for the first time this season. It was actually cool in the house last night. I didn't get a big enough running start with the stove. We still haven't turned on the central heat yet. Last year it was off until the Sunday after Thanks Giving. I think my wood is a little better this year, the stove is burning a little hotter and a little longer. I too am happy to get some cold weather. Getting back into the 24/7 stove routine makes me feel good.

I put on socks today. saw some snow flyin around yesterday afternoon but nothing landed. Still waiting for cold, cant wait to break out the ice scraper for the windshield. I feel for Alaskan and Canadian folks, still like summer for you guys here.

Last night's fire left a good bed of coals after 8 hours, so I made a 3/4 load fire this morning. It was below freezing at 7 am. But sun came out and temps warmed up into the high 50s, low 60s. House was too hot by 9 am. After stacking some wood piles for next year, bicycling this afternoon in shorts.

Forecast is fairly mild weather through Thanksgiving, so no fires until later in the week. For my neck of the woods and wood heat strategy, my real season starts around Thanksgiving and runs till St. Patty's Day - but I may not get to the 24-7 routine till into December this year.

The Houston weather man says we have warm here thru Thanksgiving. Day temps 70 -80’s, nite temps 60’s.

I don’t see how you guys can deal with the cold week after week, month after month.

A little cold is fine, but not what you guys deal with.
