Well after a half a season with a Better n Bens that was always taking off on us (even after installing an inline damper) and putting up with 4 hr burn time, we bit the bullet and bought a new Quadrafire 5700 Step Top. They delivered it this afternoon and it's doing very nicely so far. The other half is now thinking we should have gotten the fan for it. I think we should just wait for a month or so and get used to the stove. We'll see who wins that battle :) The information here was great and we had narrowed it down to the Jotul 600, Quadra-Fire Cumberland Gap and 5700 Step top and after talking to two dealers we settled on the 5700. Thanks for everyone here for helping make our choice.

Great trade!

Welcome to the forum.

You got a good stove there ! :)

Get the fan, it is well worth it !!!

My father-in-law and I are going shopping on Wednesday to replace his Better n' Benz. His is at least 30 years old. He actually does Ok with it, but he's got to take advantage of the tax credit. Judging by where you live, I'm guessing you may have gone to Preston? That is where we will be going. I'm guessing he will be deciding between the same stoves as you. He really likes my Jotul insert though.

Good luck with your new stove.

Well we decided to get the fan but they had to order it. They called Wed. to say it was in so we let the stove go out and installed it Thursday. Huge difference and well worth it so far. Much quieter than the fan on the Ben.

Yes we went to Preston. The stove is on sale...well probably normal price as Preston tends to be pricey. If you haven't gone already go to Quadrafire's website and do the dealer search thing. It should come up with a $100 coupon towards the stove.

We never did smoke the house out real bad with the first burn. We lit a small fire, then the next one was a little bigger and then just went to burning.

When I went to but my 5700. I basically went all over N.E. to see if I could get a better price. Even to NH with no sales tax. At the time Preston beat them all buy a fair amount. Also if you need fire bricks for the back of the stove, ( and you will) there are 2 of them that have holes in them. Preston cuts the holes themselves and save you a lot of money there. ( they called them the Shotgun bricks)
