I have a apc xs1300 that i think the batteries are going, would i be able to use a deep cycle for a replacement and let the ups charge the battery?
also would the ups clean up the power coming from a generator, I was looking at a cheap one from harbor freight 800w.
Thanks
Chuck
Hi Chuck - Before investing in a battery, have you tried connecting this UPS to your pellet stove yet as a test? The reason I ask is that the xs1300 gives a "stepped approximation sine wave", and some pellet stove motors really strain running with this kind of ups. My stove, and others on the forum need a "sine wave" to run happy.
As for wiring in a conventional (lead-acid) deep cycle battery, that works. I did it with a previous UPS, but you should have the battery located in a well ventilated area, since it can give off hydrogen gas. Also - Some UPSs use 2 12v batteries in series, in which case you would need 2 deep cycle batteries.
My recommendation is to test the UPS on the stove first. Since the batteries may be weak, let the stove completely fire up, and wait for the ignition cycle to finish, then pull the AC on the UPS. If your stove motors sound fine (no hum and running smooth), then you may want to consider replacement OEM batteries. I've had good luck with ebay getting new OEM gell batteries
Thanks for your help.I just pulled the plug to see if the pellet stove would run, no just hummed . I have a generator that has automatic voltage regulater i just hope the xs1300 will run off the generator.
Thanks
