I get home from work today; it's 58 degrees outside, 68 in our house, and the pellet stove is burning. The kids are home from college and they were apparently cold. I turned it off. Right now it's 50 degrees outside and 67 degrees in, and the husband wants to know if I'm going to start the stove. No. We've turned into a family of wimps. Seriously though, the really low burn dirties up the stove way too much. I'm looking forward to consistently cold weather so I can just turn the thing on and forget about it.

Geez.... I've been running my stove when it's been 60F....but I'm old.

Same here! As long as we are having a 50/60 degree day here and there
my stove isn't going to be running.

Wife and son are spoiled here too! I just set the stat to 72ºF and Let the stove do what it needs to keep the temp for them. I get no evil looks or name calling. Its easier and more stable heat than the wood so I aint complaining!

your kids and your husband want to be warmer and you turn the heat off! What's that about? You think that keeping them cold will toughen them up. There are pills that will help with this problem. (and pellets to help with theirs!)

Newf I'm just like you LOL. Whenever I have company I always get complaints about how cold it is in the house. I've become a constant thermostat watcher and the temp has to go into the low 60's before the stove comes on. Stick to your guns, the kids will get used to it.

Yup, I guess I am "old" too! I like it toasty! I do shut the stove down during the day when we are at work right now, but starting the stove is my first priority when I walk in the door after work. In fact tonight it is supposed to get down to about 20 and I think I may leave it run all night. Besides that is why I got the stove, so I could have it warm and not feel guilty about turning up the furnace! We have 12 foot ceilings throughout the house and it really takes a lot to get it warm and keep it warm with the furnace. Whereas the XXV really warms up the living space nice and toasty! People know that when they come to my house they need to leave their sweaters at home.

Obviously that is your first mistake…..but at least you are pointed in the right direction….. :)

Don't think either those Granules LG or the CUBEX are a mistake, my stove loves both and yes it loves your Oakies as well.

You see, I did try them and they are on my short list.

So Mr krooser, if you are older than dirt then I am compelled to ask, do you recall this strange phenomenom referred to as "Disco"? That's rather old as well. I can't find any information on it.

Smokey, I appreciate you trying them.....but I want you to really commit to them. Do away with all the others and finally settle down with just this one. Spend some serious time together and get to know each other like no other. You know your stove wants to and aren't you tired of running around with all those others, only to fine out that after just a couple of bags of them, you get bored and they just don't deliver like these do....Go on...what are you waiting for....take that step...pick up that phone and make the call...or fire up the truck and let er rip.....There are 4 or 5 tons with your name of them, just waiting for you to finally admit you have found the one....the only one you want to burn for the rest of your season......you can thank me later....

Not for this year BTU, maybe I'll get some for the cold season of 2011-12 you see I have this season already taken care of and am currently working on diversifying my shoulder and in between pellets supply. You see I'm looking at having my 2011-12 supply in the bunker before the end of this year.

So, tell me, how did you factor in Duct Tape to the invention of dirt?

Oh and as far as Disco goes, I KNOW how Duct Tape helped there !!!! That's why you cant find any info any more!!!!!!

I set my thermostat to 70 deg, run on medium heat all the time. My stove doesn't know outside temp, it just runs when it's told to.

I'm with you...I feel no guilt burning whenever I want to "break the chill" in the house. I am a guy but I think with a lot of guys that it is a "man" thing..."No way am I gonna turn my stove on till it hits negative temps outside..." type of boasts.

I have had on going arguments with guys at work who won't engage there 4WD in their turcks until they can't go without...Same kind of thought process IMO...As for me, heat on when I'm chilly (like you said, that is why I bought the thing !!) and 4WD...when there is snow on the roads...ain't too hard to figure that one out I'm thinkin' !

Agree with the heat thing, but 4WD is for gittin' out when you get stuck, not for gittin' stuck.

4wd is for really getting stuck when the 2wd won't cut it.

why I have a programable thermostat that my family hasn't figured out yet, they can set the heat higher but it will reset to my program in a few hours.
