Yes - after review I do see I am improperly using some terms. I looked back to a previous & similar post to find where a member named hearthnleisure said, "Sounds like an air flow issue. There is an intake air adjustment on the right side of the unit that is accessible behind the bottom louver. Open that up, I think pulling it forward opens it. " This is what I called a baffle for lack of a better term, but should of said air intake adjustment as hearthnleisure speaks of. This air intake adjustment was indeed partially closed - actually a lot closed. I opened this all the way up, but have yet to try burning again - need some cold weather.

I have an RSF Opel too. The sliding door/panel/baffle you are talking about is to switch between in room air and outside air (if equipped). Mine is equipped with outside air, so I need to close the sliding door so that it takes the air from outside instead of inside. If outside air is not installed, than the sliding door needs to be fully opened.

I have the same problem with the black glass. I think I am closing the draft too quick and too much. I even had something weird this afternoon, the flame would go out for about 30 seconds, then a big woof and all the gases ignited at once, the draft was not fully closed, but almost. I opened the draft a little and the flame picked up again.

Interesting about the sliding door - I have the outside air option so now closed the sliding door all the way thanks to you info.

My glass has been staying much cleaner now that I let a fresh charge of wood burn wide open for about 20 minutes, then close 1/3 and burn for 5 minutes, and close 2/3 and burn till secondary is burning hard... usually end up closing all the way before long.
