A few hours after daylight. Nice surprise. 187 lbs. after field dressed. 8 point. Really happy to have the winch on the 4 wheeler to pull him out of the gully or I may have had to cut him up right in the woods. lol

Thats A big One!

Trophy for sure. Are you taking him to the taxidermist?

I get my yearly supply from the guy I rent land to. He stopped by today and dropped off a bunch of moose meat and venison.
The funny thing is, we don't even have moose on the farm!

Nice buck Man. Real nice.

Nice buck. Congratulations.

Them steaks will be tastey......

Nice buck crs!! I couldnt make the trip up there this year but was lucky enough to bag a nice one on my buddys property this past saturday. It was killin me to not be up at camp in NY but hey there's always next year. Congrats on the buck!

Those are some heavy beams there, congrats. What do you use up there in riffle country (I assume your that far north I mean)? Originally a northern NYer myself, Jefferson county. Dad shot a spike with the muzzleloader up there (I tell him to let the little ones by but no one does, so all you ever see are forks and spikes practically). Ohio's season starts monday, and I got a brand new 20ga 'rifle' to test out, a Savage 220F. Can't wait. I did get one with the bow, just a small doe, so looking for 1-2 more to feed the family for a year.

I live about 100 feet from the north -south hunting line in Herkimer County. Up until af few years ago, you couldn't use a rifle in the southern zone. Now, in most parts, you can. So I hung up the 12 gauge and started using the 30-06. Now it's pretty much one gun for both zones unless I take the pistol, which is alot of fun also.

I know what you mean about the small bucks. Unfortunately, the bigs ones don't always come around, and after not seeing anything, you have to fill the freezer with something. It would be nice to own enough land to really manage the property, but I am not that fortunate. I hunt on my buddies land. Here's a pic of the deer hanging.

That's a nice size buck, we have one like that running around our club property in the Catskills, everyone has him on their trail cameras but come the big day he is no where to be seen, 7:10 AM opening day I shot a doe, with limited time to spend in the woods, and with NYS charging 10 bucks for that tag you bet your life I will shoot one the first chance I get

Nice Buck! Opening day is Monday down here. I've been out twice so far for small game and really havent seen much. 30-06 is a nice rifle, I shot my dad's at the range a few weekends ago. I have a 30-30 pump. I'd like to pick up a 30-06 though. I really like the weight and power of that gun.

Ahh gotcha. So your actually in southerntier, atleast thats what we called it up north. Didnt realize they let you use riffle now... dad use to always go down for shotgun thanksgiving week to a farm in DeRuyter but they lost that place about the time I turned 16. They would always talk about all the deer - and bigger bucks - they'd see down there.

Here in ohio we are still shotgun only (so I had to hang up my .270), however I just yesterday sighted in my new 20 guage 'riffle' and beleive it or not I'm getting about as good of groups as I ever got with any riffle... maybe this new gun does live up to the hype. i researched it for a while before deciding - on the Savage 220F, built as a riffle from the ground up from thier tried and true 110 action, with accutrigger and all the riffle goodies. My last group of 5 at 100 yards was 4 touching (strangely enough in a perfect line) so just a hair over 1" and then 1 was high by a little over an inch. Who woulda thought a shotgun could do that? of course I'm paying about $15 bucks for 5 shots wich makes me sick. Shooting the 3" Federal Barnes tipped eXpanders. Can't wait to try it out next week.
