Hi All -

I'm just about to commit to buying a Blaze King wood stove.

Does anyone have opinions about the durability of the finish on the gold door option?

Does the gold door still look good after years of use?

Is it hard to maintain its appearance?

MANY thanks,

Bruce in the high desert of Northern New Mexico

Good question..I bought the black one cause the dang stove was enough money as it was..lol.
The gold color does dress it up some.
I had to pay 50 bucks just for the gold color rails..they don't come for free on the classic..can you believe it?

Thanks HotCoals -

FWIW - sorry, but they just quoted me a price of $19 for the little rails. I'm passing on them just b/c they look (to me) fairly frail and lightweight. They look nice though.

Sounds like your dealer has very reasonable prices. It seems like there are fewer dealers here in the Midwest, and you have to look around to find one that offers good prices.

BTW, you can get black, silver ("satin"), gold, and windowless doors for the King. I think you can get silver rails too.

Good luck, and please let us know how your stove works out!

RenovationGeorge - Believe me, getting good pricing has been a monumental struggle. The closest dealer to me was asking much higher prices than the next-closest dealer. He would also change prices b/t phone calls. Finally, I had to get the regional mgr. involved who convinced my closest dealer to work with me squarely. I'm waiting for him to call me back so I can close the deal w/ a deposit and pick up my new stove next week. Pretty exciting stuff!

Thanks, B

My dealer is the highest on the east side.
I paid 3200 for the dang thing then just about walked out when he told me 50 for the rails.
I had called another dealer more then 100 miles from him and could have saved 400 bucks if I wanted to do the drive.
But that dealer said he coulden't sell to me cause i was out of his area.
I told him bull on the phone and that if I droe all the way there with cash he would sell me the stove.
How the heck would he know where I was from..lol.
But I decided to pay the extra 400 so if I have probs my closest dealer would have to work with me.
Now I wish I just drove the extra distance and visited with a friend who lives up that way..you can't kill these stoves if you tried..lol.

Hey Bruce,

Good for you--you sound like a good consumer, and that benefits us all. Good luck, and please share how the stove works for you.

Just a little info on the gold door.... my dealer has a bk king that has been burning in the shop for 10+ years with a gold door and it has looked a little ratty most of that time..... it seems that if you get a fingerprint or any smoo on the gold and get it hot it will be there for ever......

My gold door looks perfect after a year of use, but it warned me on the directions not to get it dirty before burning. I've paid attention to that and no problems so far. It seems pretty solid to me.

Thanks guys (gals?) - I went ahead and gave'm my credit card # late this afternoon. So, come next week, I'll be a BK Princess owner, complete w/ gold door. Thanks so much for your feedback and encouragement. I'll be careful w/ the door.

Now all I've got to do is; tear up some carpet, lay down a hearth, buy some pipe for the chimney, get someone to put it thru my attic, and then PAY for all of this...

Thanks again. B

all black here. i think that it looks better all black. everyones different but i have heard that the gold doesnt look all that good after a while.
