Ok, talked with TEMPCO today regarding the 15 Fin igniter from Harman. They will make them for me if I want some. Got to order a lot to get the pricing the same....

I have a feeling that the fins do nothing to extend the life of this thing. I can get the same part for $21.00. Anyone care to be a guinea pig? My Harmans do not have igniters. I bet a case of beer that replacing the 306 watt 15 fin igniter with just a simple 400 watt heating cartridge will do the same thing for just as long or longer. I do not know a lot about thermal dynamics but those fins just allow the igniter to transmit the heat faster and cool down faster. We can heat up faster by increasing the wattage. I think the faster cool down does more harm than good. Any takers?

The 15 fin ignitor is rated better than the old 13 fin. The 13 fin would burn out faster and heat up slower and cool down slower. The 15 fin should be the better of the two. If you have the old 13 fin in stock, you may want to use them up first then move on to the 15 fin.

HEY, JUST WONDERED IF ANYTHING CAME OF THE SUBSTITUTE FOR THE HARMAN IGNITERS ??, I AM READY TO PURCHASE & WAS WONDERING IF ANYBODY GUNEA PIGGED THE SUBSTITUTE ??

I'm having my local machine shop make an adaptor so I can use a cheap cartidge heater in my St. Croix... film at 11....

WOW, GREAT , CAN YOU KEEP ME IN THE LOOP ON THIS ?...... REGARDING THE CLEANING OF THE STOVE, WHEN I PURCHASED & PICKED IT UP LAST WEEKEND, I SPENT APPROX 3 HOURS CLEANING EXTREMELY THOROUGHLY THIS NEGLECTED STOVE - I ALSO TOOK OUT THE IGNITER & SUPPLIED POWER TO IT W/O ANY RESPONSE SO I KNOW FOR SURE IT'S DEAD !

I'm wondering about the higher current draw. 50 more watts shouldn't be a big deal, but I'd like to see someone else try it first.

Hay gang How do I tell If I have the old 13 fin or the new 15 fin igniter? My Harman Advance was new last year. I would think the extra fins (A 10% gain)were added to increase the heat transfer to the air Like the heat sinks in my confuser I am from the Tim The Tool Man Taylor School and also think going from 306 Watts to 400 (More Power Arh Arh) will make the stove light quicker a small boost from 2.5 Amps to 3.3. This said The bride just reminded my that we are still under warrantee. Nice to dream

I notice you started this thread a few months ago Scott but if they are in the $25 range I'll try a couple.

I've just been sooooooooooo busy! Going to try this experiment out next week, I'll post some pics.

I had a few gents from St. Gobain (the crystal people) come in and buy some igniters. Said they were gonna make me one that was indestructible, I wait patiently for it.

I recently purchased a used Harman Accrentra and been cleaning it all up and found out my igniter is bad. Checked the resisitance and i've got a big ole 0. So i was wondering has anyone tried using this kinda a igniter or any other type and seen if it worked? If so how long did it last...etc... I think $80-$100 is a little steep for a harman.
