Hey gang, the wife and I have noticed that we are burning a lot more wood and we can not get the stove up to temp like we did last year. Does this sound like an air leak? I inspected all the seals and they appear to be OK. Nothing has changed other than the wood is better seasoned. What ya think?

One suggestion is to check that the ceramic fiber baffle boards are properly seated

Nothing has changed but the wood, and now your stove burns cooler and less efficiently? Hold on, my Hearth.com parrot wants to say something...

"Awwwwk! wet wood!! bad wood! Awwwwk!"

Dang parrot.

I'd suggest checking the moisture and type of wood. It may be wetter than you think, or of a lighter variety with less BTUs.

But better seasoned wood says it has to be something else....like perhaps an air leak.

clean the chimney and the top of the baffle. piles of flyash tend to do bad things to stove's performance.

Well, the baffle is sound and in its correct location. The flue has been cleaned. It had very little buildup. I'll do the damper trick in the morning...... Where'd that parrot go?!?! I need something to eat. %-P

The wood is a lot better this year. Last years wood did sizzle a little but this year it is way better! 90+% of the wood is a good hardwood. About the only thing I have that is sub-hardwood is poplar. There is no mistaking it for say oak or hickory. I have an e-mail on its way to Hearthstone.

You don't. I cleaned mine when I cleaned the flue. From the top. :coolsmirk:
