I was lucky enough to score a huge oak tree that my neighbor had taken down. As soon as I saw the tree service pull up I ran out and asked them about the wood, they said I could have it and bucked it into 18" lengths for me. All I had to do was roll it out of her yard and right into my driveway (easier said than done, it took my dad, 2 brothers, girlfriend and myself to move them!!). That was the Friday after thanksgiving.

Forward to yesterday when I finally had a full day to start splitting this stuff up. I figured I could hit it all with the pro splitter and super splitter (just received on Friday from the GF for our anniversary!). My dad came over and we started first thing in the morning. About 2 hours in a gentleman walks by on his daily stroll, we give the usual wave and the "Hey, how's it going?". About 10 minutes later he comes back and says "Hey guys, I live a couple of streets down and have a log splitter. Do you want me to bring it over?" I wasn't going to turn that down, it would prove to make our day much more productive. He brought it over and had the thing running and ready to go.

A couple free cords of wood and a free splitter for the day. I love my neighborhood. I'll drop by his house with a gift cert. for a restaurant or a nice bottle of something today.

(Since it didn't happen if there are no pics, I'll try to post some soon)

Quick reflexes!
Definitely take your neighbor a token of appreciation.
Uh, don't forget your girlfriend either!
Have Dad and bro's over for dinner or something. Very cool.

After reading so many threads where neighbors are stealing wood, complaining about stacks of wood, etc. it's really nice to see a thread like this about decent neighbors . . . hurrah!

P.S. Good move on your part to give a token gift to the neighbor with the splitter . . . as mentioned sending a token gift to the neighbor with the wood wouldn't hurt either.

Yes indeed, a good neighbor is a wonderful thing! If you don't believe it, have just one bad one......

my neighbor behind me came walking through the backyard a month ago and said anytime i want just knock on the door and ill bring the splitter over. now the kicker lol. i said thank you thats very nice but i love to hand split. thats my work out. bringin the splitter over would be like me missing a day at the gym.

i thank god for my neighbrs everyday there awesome. from giving me tomato plants to put in the garden to given me a hand when i need it. there older retired people and respect all the work i do around the house. the last people that lived here in my house were the "bad neighbors" they couldnt stand the guy that lived here cuz he was so lazy.

Sounds great! I've paid my dues with the terrible neighbors. Had to move out of rentals 3x because of truly scary situations. I'm really lucky now and have great neighbors. One comes over 3x a day to let my dogs out while I'm at work. Most are wood burners so we help each other out. There is one overly amorous neighbor, but he made himself useful stacking some wood while I was away for Thanksgiving!

The good neighbors are worth their weight in gold. The bad ones you have to put on ignore, you can't win when arguing with an idiot.

Lending a splitter is mighty gracious. Not many would do that even for a friend!

You've got good neighbors.

A splitter lending neighbor is beyond good. Hell, I hate lending mine to friends or neighbors(I have 4 neighbors within a mile or so). I like all my neighbors but still stress out a bit when any of them borrow my splitter. I'd rather loan them a vehicle I think.
