+1 for that. I can only guess that using ALL CAPS gets the sellers message across, regardless of accuracy.

Long time lurker, first time posting.... I just couldn't resist posting a reply to this thread

According to the terms of the CL ad, I would like my "face cord" cut and split to 36" to fit my large outdoor boiler, the same day delivery would be fine (I live in southeast Missouri)... and yes I would like the Christmas special of 3 "cords" for $150.

Give Chuck a call, then. After all, it's his Christmas gift to you.

And welcome.

lol, this guy has no math skills or something. I know both the cut to length and the bulk buying rates have both been mentioned, but ...DUH...

If I call him and ask for one face cord he brings it for $45. BUT if I call him and ask for two then he charges me $55 per??? Then If I ask for 3 cords, he delivers a full cord for $50 each?

Not to mention that one SHOULD ask for their Face cord wood in lengths of 36" since he'll do it.

I actually want 3 cords of wood in 10-12" lengths so I can load N/S. I'd definitely pay $150 for THAT!!!

Ha, I think I want my face cords cut to 44" inches to fit my outdoor boiler (wink wink)... man... I am really tempted to email him, or even call him. I could sell my wood cutting stuff and buy enough wood to last me several years...

Just let us know how your call turns out... ;-)

I'd love to see someone split 44" wood.

Why not order a face cord cut to 8' length?

heck, while we're at it, just leave my face cord at tree length. i'll take one for now, then call him right back to get the second for another 45$

I sent the following email to Chuck. I think every time we see an ad on CL like this, the seller ought to get 100 or more emails from Hearth.com members in an attempt to educate those bozos.

I'll let you know if he replies.

Hi. I have a question about your wood. If I buy one 'face cord' for $45, why would you charge me $55 each if I buy two face cords? Then you say your Christmas Special is 'three cords' for $150? Dang, that's a good deal. Usually one cord costs up to $200 or more. I guess you meant to say three FACE cords for $150, right? If so, I can buy one face cord for $45. Two face cords for $55 each, Three face cords for $50 each. That math doesn't make much sense to me.

And you say the wood is well seasoned. How long has it been since it was cut? You say you'll split and cut to desired length. If you haven't split it yet, it is impossible for it to be "seasoned" even if it was cut several years ago. Hardwood will not dry properly until it is split. I've got some oak that was cut to 20 inch long logs almost two years ago that still has a moisture content well over 20% and THAT is not properly seasoned. So many firewood sellers cut wood in late summer or early Fall then claim that it is "seasoned."

Other than a bit of confusion in your pricing, your prices are fair. Three face cords equals one "real" chord. So, getting a cord of hardwood for $150, cut and split, is really a good deal. But hardwood needs to be season at least a full year - after it is split!. Oak and hickory can take two years. If it's not properly seasoned it won't burn properly. Much of the heat will be lost just boiling the water out of the wood instead of heating the house.

I'm not accusing you of anything. Just asking you to clarify what you're selling.

Best Regards!

Ken

U guys are preying on the week. NOT RIGHT.

Any fool knows two face cords costs more than one. I think you meant - He charges more for two than he does for two of one.
Simple mistake. Not everyone is perfect. Ya'll suck.

A face cord is about 43 cubic feet(42.6). It does not have to be measured out 16"X4'X8'. I am sure this guy
would love to deliver a face cord cut in 8 foot lengths!

Maybe he or she has 653 piles of split wood that he/she can choose from based on your requests.

Not preying here, just seeing this one as amusing. If I was genuinely interested in what this seller had, I'd simply give him a call to clarify. But based on his post, I'd be wary of the degree of seasoning, and simply pass.

Preying on the week? which one? this week or last week? It is not preying on the WEAK to hold a person to their words. Don't make promises that you can't keep. It would be preying on him if he was your friend doing it for free. this guy is in THE BUSINESS of selling wood. If he can't get it right, then he should get a new line of work.

A face cord is often ASSUMED to be 42.67 cubic feet (1/3 of 128), however, it is LITERALLY defined (my words) as:stove length wood with a face that is 32 square feet (4x8).
