I bought my 5510 from Tractor Supply last winter. After getting the burn rate correct it's been great. I've sealed the ash pan closed on each side and what a difference it really made!

The only thing I don't like is how fast the glass gets sooty....it starts to look like an upside-down mountain after a day or two of burning.

Any suggestions for a fix?

Does that stove have an air wash, if it does make certain it is kept clean and usually most stoves run a lot cleaner at higher firing rates. It becomes a question of having a hot burn using a near perfect air/fuel ratio to keep the glass clean for long periods of time. Most folks give up and live with crud on the glass. I used to clean mine when I cleaned the stove I haven't cleaned my glass yet this season and I'm in over a ton now and have no trouble seeing the flame. It was far worse when I cleaned the ash out at 23 bags over 26 days. I've cleaned the stove three times in total so far this season.

Yeah, the 5510 has an air-wash. I clean the stove every Sunday, although I could probably go for two weeks between cleans. I have the draft all the way up, so combustion isn't an issue, and the heat is excellent. I guess I may have to live with a patially cloudy door. I was thinking it may be an issue with the door seal.

If you have the draft up all the way. You are probably losing a lot of heat out the chimney.

I've been meaning to check that. I'll probably drop the draft rate a bit this evening and see what happens. All I know is that on setting #3, I keep my livingroom and kitchen at 70 degrees.

Hey Jeff, I also have the 5510 (Just purchased it) and found that some of the pellets I was trying created a lot of soot for me. My problem now is that the pellets I have create a ton of heat and hardly any soot on the glass but i have a ton of ash. I also have my draft fan always set 1 above what my heat setting is or I get a bunch of soot. But I believe that the draft setting would depend on how your venting is set up and other factors.

My question to you is how did sealing your ash pan help? I am a newbie at pellet stoves (this is my first one) and have had some issues with this one but I am not sure if it is me or the stove.

It seems that alot of air is getting sucked through the ash pan openeings on each side. Afte I sealed them with silicone (i never use them anyway, always use a W/D vac) it ran much better and hotter.

Jeff

Ahhh ok I got ya now. See I first had a Model 5500 that did not have a ash pan and TCS switched me out with the newer model one 5510 that has one and I have thought about getting one of the Ash Vacs. It seems like it would make life a little easier for the time being.

I purchased a king 5510 from Tractor Supply about a month ago and I am still playing with the auger rate and draft settings since tech support showed me how. Could you share your settings with me? My auger is at 3.70 and my draft is at 4.50. Thanks.

Woke up for work this morning....4:45 am...28 degrees outside. The 5510 is keeping the house at 70-71 degrees on setting 4.
Im guessing you have a fairly large house. I have a smaller 1400 sq ft Cape Cod and my 5500XL will run you clear out of the house on the lowest setting if its anywhere near 30 degrees outside. I love this stove and if you havent read my post about it yet I only paid $100 for it at TSC because they thought it was broke :)

Im using the 5510 pellet stove. I would like to know what other have their auger and draft setting set to. I know this gets confusing because from what i'm reading most users dont know that you can change the factory setting internally by holding the draft up botton and aux up botton at the same time. same with heat range. When I first set up the stove the it was on heat range 5 and draft at 7. Worked for a while but soon overflowed pellets. Curret Auger speed is 3.70 and draft is 4.50. Seems to be burning good but would like to get more heat.

darrenhunt, there is upper and lower auger and draft setting , factory auger is 1.75 low and 4.50 high,i use mine at 1.60 and 4.00,,,,,, the draft i left at factory setting and just use df up and down to adjust. the auger range lower and upper is the flow range that occurs when you select the heat range 1-5. did you seal your ash pan slide doors yet. if not, i,we, and everybody suggest that you do with a high heat rtv silicone. on heat range 5 you shouldnt be able to be in the same room. i suggest you read the forum '' king 5510 review'' this info should get you started good. also the pellets your using plays a good part in performance. let me know if you need anymore help

Wow, reading this thread has helped a hundred times more than my 5 readings of the US Stove manual. I bought my 5510 a couple months ago but have had it off for the past 2 weeks because of all the burn pot and smoldering pellet issues. I'm excited to make the changes and try it out. The most mind boggling thing about this whole experience is that US Stove hasn't updated their manual nor fixed the problem. I think I have the newest version of the 5510, it says King across the front, you would think they would have made the mechanical changes before the cosmetic ones.

you should read the "king 5510 review" forum for alot more info on these stoves
