Just a warning to those who don't do it yourself make sure they do EVERYTHING that needs to be done... I had someone come out in the summer and do it.. I asked them if they had ever worked on my kind of stove (st. croix) he said yes... Said he had done many... I asked him what he does and he said all cleaning of inside, out, fans, blowers, pipes and such (my piping is short and leads directly out straight) I have 3 children at home so didn't really watch what he was doing (big mistake)... come now, I started having this weird sound at startup so I though something was loose... Checkout all screws and tightened and still the sound.. So today I come home and my stove is off and number 2 and 3 feed lights blinking.. (means high limit switch shutoff) so I went on the st croix website and also called my dealer.. They asked if the person had cleaned the fans when I had them clean it and I said, "oh yes, I made sure to ask that) they said, well maybe you should check.. sure enough, it wasn't cleaned... filled with dust!!! I cleaned and and reset the high heat limit and now it's working again!!!

Just a caution.... Know what and who is cleaning your stove!!!!

Its from hearing stories like yours that convinced me to learn to do all my stove maintenance myself.

How many bags have you burned since you've had it cleaned? it's certainly possible that he did clean it and it has since just gotten dirty again. I clean the guts of mine after every ton, and the fans are always filthy.

I'm with doghouse, learn to do it yourself and learn to do it the right way.

I for one enjoy doing it myself, well so far but I know there is alot I am probably not doing. If I could find the damn service manual online for my breckwell p28fs I would do it all.And when I bought it 2 months ago I know that the previous owner didnt have it serviced or do it himself.Blower motor was caked.

So if anyone out there has a full knowledge of my stove please enlighten my as to what needs to be done.

thanks
matt

Its best to read up on what all needs to be done, and do it yourself.
So many hired people nowadays don't care about doing quality work, they just make a mess and bill you for their piss poor job.
Its like taking a car to a shop for repairs, its amazing how incompetant many mechanics are, and others just blatantly rip people off.
Charging for stuff that was never actually done.

Most people could do 99% of their homes upkeep, furnace, car repairs and such, and then know its done right, and save a lot of money to.

I installed my own plumbing, new windows, interior trim, and flooring in my home when I last renovated.
It cut my renovations to just 40% of the price quotes i received for the work, and i know the windows and such are in correctly, and well insulated to, no drafts, and no looking at poorly
done corners on baseboards and other trim pieces that i see in many homes.
All i hired out was the taping and mudding of the drywall.
Even the new kitchen cabinets were a breeze to install.
Plumbing a few sinks, tubs, and toilets is very easy. The inspector was impressed and said it was nicer than any regular plumber would ever do to.

I'm sure with three little ones at home you prob don't
have time to clean the stove but if you have a sig other
I'd get them to learn how to do all the maintenance.
Been doing mine since day one. It's time consuming
but not difficult.

Nah I prefer to do the cleaning of my stoves myself,my wife does enough work and ultimately I wanted the stoves. But if anyone has breckwell docs to share please contact me.
