Western Mass.
I'm on the road - out west - and picked up a copy of the WSJ in the hotel lobby.
There, in the prime part of the paper, is a 1/2 page full-color Xmas ad with a Stihl chain saw wrapped up in a stocking!

It's pretty amazing that a chainsaw is now considered a mainstream Xmas present!

Oh I don't know . . . my wife bought my a Husquvarna years before I started heating with wood . . . granted I live in Maine. ;)

Eye dohnt thinx it is mainstream,,, jest blanket marketing for STIHL since logging is in the crapper.
Most mainstreams eye know dohnt like 2 get their hands dirty.
MayB a target of the unemployed or those looking 2 save a $ heating .
Good thinxing on STIHL's part if'n you asks me.

Alot of home owners dreaming of that chainsaw for x-mass. Heating or just genral clean up.

Well, I'd also like a new saw for Christmas too. I'm not mainstream...

The WSJ is published in regional editions. You saw one for the west, where a lot of folks use woodstoves. I doubt the ad appeared in the NYC or Miami editions...

My guess is that some one at Stihl is thinking about offering stock... An ad in the WSJ would be a great way to familiarize the money boys with their company.

Stihl is a German company.

Don't think being German would stop them from floating some shares on whatever exchange(s) made them happy. You can buy shares of Siemens AG as ADRs (American Depository Receipts) on the NYSE. Same with Nokia (Finland) or Daimler in the pink sheets.

If Stihl were to float an offering on say the Munich Exchange, they would want to see some USD head towards them as well.

Maybe they just want to sell saws, though...

Maybe they figure chicks with money will see the ad, have tired of listening to their ole' man b!tch about their Husqvarna, and decide to get them a real saw soon as a surprise :cheese:

I bought my wife a Stihl weedwipe for our anniversary, one year. It didn't go over too well but she got over it.lol

I've seen them put full page ads in the WSJ before. It's usually about how their equipment isn't sold in big box stores.

If I bought my wife a new vacuum for Christmas it wouldn't go over well, but if she buys me a new Stihl, I'd be so excited I might almost show emotion. A new dishwasher for her? No way! but a new Lawnmower for me? Yippee! Buy her a new mop? Better not. Buy me a new Axe? Sounds like a sweet deal!

Why is it that things that help me do my job easier are considered BONUS, but the things to help her do her job easier are EXPECTED?

oh well. I treat her like a princess, so I can't complain too much. I wouldn't have it any other way. Just funny, i guess.

I think this fits the situation. SORRY I guess they removed the video. It was what happens when a husband buys the wife a tool for a pressent.

My wife said we need a new blender and I could get her one for Christmas. I said that I thought those things were out of the question for gifts. She couldn't understand why. If your listening honey, I didn't find a good blender, but instead got you a . . .
