Ok, here is a picture of fines that came from 4 bags of cubex. I used a colander to shake out the fines. Is this normal for these? My stove hate fines. I really don't want to colander shake 3 1/2 tons of pellets.. I don't think I got these many fines out of 12 bags of drycreek...

Chris, Put them cubex on craigs list and go buy the Dry creeks. Next time try before you buy!

The picture attached is from 2 bags of the Potomacs softwoods. Its 18 ounces in the jar. Thats a lot of fines! This just barely would be in spec. Fines go by weight. If you weight them and divide by 4 I can figure out the percentage. I really doubt its more than <.5% which is the spec.

Unofficially measured (by eye as i dump), my oakies have more fines than my cubex do. Nothing out of average though IMO.

Dry creeks are rubbish if you ask me.... at least 20-30 degrees colder temps than cubex easily, dirty, tons of ash, and sooty. 'big box' quality at best.

But as always, your results may vary.

triple post, sorry... site 500'ed on me.

Chris this is Jack the pellet dealer that you purchased your Cubex from I have not noticed much for fines in my bags up here. I sent you a PM. If you still have some wraped up can you get me the number off the plastic wrap. I will contact other customers and see how they are doing. Thanks.

Now that is good service ... Good job Jack the pelllet dealer!

Briansol,

Not to start a RIOT or anything, but I also have noticed that the Okanagans I have, have more fines ( and dust) than any other pellet I have tried including the hated, dreaded, despised, early Maine Woods ( Athens) pellets. ( I believe that I lucked out with a good batch of the original Maine Woods.)

I do screen all pellets and, in reality, the LGs, Lignetics, Barefoots, and some others, have not needed screening.

I do love the way the Okanagans burn, just saying . . . .

I am experiencing a lot of saw dust in my Oakies too, but it doesnt seem to effect my burning, but it is enough to effect my hopper drop. I was not impressed with the heat of the dry creeks I sampled last week.

I'd say this is abnormal for Cubex, and likely has to do with moisture finding a way into the pellets. It happens, and it happens to everyone at some point. Look at the surface of the pellets, they should be shiny and snap when you bend them. If you can grind them between your fingers they are no good.

Kudos to Meneillys for steppin up.

I just swapped out a control board for a customer who buys Cubex from Jack. I had a chance to inspect the pellets and burn them in his stove. They seem like a fine pellet to me. Ive sent a few customers to Meneillys in the past few months. No one came back to me complaining about them. I just wish Jack would raise his prices a little ;)

Fines in my pellets don't bother me as much as fines in court.............

Hey Jay, which brand that you tested had the least fines? For me it was NEWP hands down...basically none. Eagle Valley and Spruce Pointe 2nd place.

By weigh/percentage. Country Pine hands down. Very low.

I'm half way through 10 bags of Cubex and I have to say, I was impressed by how little fines they have. The only thing I have tried that I can remember being comparable were Barefoots. The Vermonts weren't too bad either though. No official measurements; just subjective by looking what is stuck to the insides of the bags.
