Ok I just bought my englander stove 2 months ago and relined my chimney and installed it in my uninsulated basement with disappointing results.Other guys at my work have done the same thing and heated their houses so they say on 1 1/2 bags a day. Mine will heat but on high and consuming large amounts of pellets which is not cost efficent compared to my electric baseboards. So Im thinking of bringing it upstairs but have very limited room since my house is just 1000 sf. Im thinking of putting it in a corner of my dining room next to a window and venting it horizonally straight outside no elbows. Problems that i have are is it too close to the window for that and if its ok then how much would install be to do that(including oak).Second my dining room table will be a few feet away so how far does it have to be away from that. This time around im gonna do more research instead of listening to people from work.lol

first off , uninsulated basements contain (actually are made of) a lot of heat sucking thermal mass. the stove wont really give you heat upstairs until you have warmed up all that uninsulated concrete. i ALWAYS ask when folks call in about basement installs if its finished or not and recommend against it if not in most cases due to this. the more of the basement walls that are exposed above ground the worse the heat loss.

moving upstairs will give you a much better heating efficiency than heating from the basement. as for the corner install you speak of , being too close to a window could be a problem and we require a 3 foot minimum vertical anyway , increase the vertical to 1 foot above the window and you are golden. as for the table if its a couple feet away it shouldnt be a problem ,mine at home here is about 3 foot from my stove and it really doesnt get overly warm so you should be ok with that (the wood is "edge on" to the stove so it doesnt have a large surface area facing the stove , shouldnt get too hot)

Thanks Mike, Yea Im definitely learning alot about this pellet stove and heating since i first bought it(Alot because of you guys here on at hearth.com). I can give it 3 foot vertical rise but then it will be close to the overhang on the outside of the house. How far does it have to be from that? Maybe I should just have someone install it up through the ceiling because im not too comfortable cutting holes in the roof but thats up to $1000 dollars i believe.Any suggestions?
