Do the flames seem a tad fast for burning on low?

I've done the dollar bill test and it passes. The outside temp was in the single digits when this was taken

looks pretty perfect to me.

pen

Looks ok to me, slow flames off the logs and plenty of secondary combustion above. How are your burn times?

mine burns the same with good wood, on the water, 25 ft chimney with a monster draft, i assume you just have a good draft.....and it is cold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I've got a two-story house so the chimney is tall indeed.

I guess I'm comparing it to my Quadrafire I had in my previous home. I recall the flames were slower with that one. Maybe that's just the difference between stoves.

What is meant by "on the water"?

i actually live on the water with no blockage so i always have a wind that at times you can hear throught the stove when opened. enhancing the draft is all. "on the water" not a burning term hahah

oh man, my burns are nothing like that when i choke down the air. I get the slow flames off the logs but no secondaries like those. I'll have to re-evaluate my wood supply. Did you get a temperature and if so where was it taken (top of insert, arch of door, etc)?

On hardwood mine does not either but 45 minutes later its burning like that, and it has done this many times.

Well, I don't live on the water, but I do have a large school playground just across the street. So we are exposed to west and northwest winds. There are times when I wonder if I have a chimney fire when I open the door the draft just roars.

I added the wood a while before taking the video.

No, no temperature taken.

This year we're burning oak that I cut last spring so it had all summer to dry. I'm talking already dead oak though, so it had been drying in the forest for who knows how many years. The glass clarity has been absolutely fantastic.

However, I'm afraid I may have grossly underestimated my wood consumption. It's looking like 4 face-cords for the month of December. I was figuring about 12 face-cords for the season! Oh well maybe spring will come early.
