It is 14 deg. out side and I still haven't turned the furnace on I am loving the first winter with this stove looks like the propane man is going to hate me this year !!!!! :) Oh and I'm also glad I didn't skimp on insulation and windows ;-)

My furnace has run a total of 4 days this season. I was away on a business trip for 6 days.
I loaded the stove with pellets before I left running on as low as I could to keep the pipes from freezing.

I set the Oil thermostat to 45 degrees for while I was gone.

I have probably burned less than 10 gallons of HHO

Mine runs for hotwater only, its an old Steam Radiator boiler system. I however do want to run oil in the beginning and the end of the heating season to make sure everything continues to work Ok.

no furnace has not been going 3 rd winter . not since i added 2nd stove upstairs . last time propane guy was here when i call in end of September to top off tank before lock price takes effect Oct 1 his last visit was at end of December. from December to September all he could he get in tank was 101.7 gallons. not bad for 9 months only use propane for cook stove and power vent 50 gallon hot water tank.

We let the furnace stay in the "on" position, for those late nights (2 AM) when the night load has burned down, and for those times when we have to be out of the house. Otherwise, "no."

I can top that... read my signature... we only cook with propane. Our furnace get kicked on for 30 min. beginning of each winter just to make sure all is well.

reason #51 why i like a pellet stove more than a wood stove . pellet stove does not go out in the middle of the night.
my furnace is only on for hot water .

It is if you forget to load it! I did that once, was not real happy with myself. Our furnace runs for hot water, but other than that, we have not used it for heat.

Yep, unfortunately I have to leave the oil monster on for DHW, and a small amount of heat for upstairs bedrooms (using the Thermguard to protect the pipes).

Luckily for me, I filled the 550 Gal tank when prices were pretty low. Hopefully, with the pellet stove cranking 24/7, I'll be able to get through 'til spring w/o a fill.

Its 22 outside, just got the P43 installed and putting out heat at 5 this afternoon and turned the furnace off!! It got up to 80 so kept turning feed rate down and got it down to a nice 78!! I'm down to 1.5 on the feed rate and will leave it there and see how it does. I think I'm going to like this!!

Pellet furnace is cranking through Uncle Jeds. People don't believe us when we tell them we heat our whole house all winter for what they pay for 1 tank of propane! We will run our propane furnace during our holiday partys only because it is easier to regulate temp.

Propane boiler is set 5-8 degrees below the pellet stove, providing a backup in case the auger would stick or fuel would run out (never happened yet) This also allows some heat for when the pellet stove is down for cleaning. Its a good idea to exercise circulator pumps & zone valves, or they can stick. (this HAS happened to me before) I also fire up my boiler briefly in the middle of summer (July 4th) for the same reasons. Next I need some battery backup because both these systems depend on electricity!

My furnace is set at 70F. When the outside temp drops below 15%, the hot air furnace comes on for a few minutes. Does a good job of evening out the heat. Just as soon as some more of that heat downstairs is circulated better, the furnace shuts off. We keep the home really warm. Wife had surgery 4 times this year and she complains easily if the temp gets in the low 70's If I could swing it, I would put a pellet stove in the living room fireplace. I've noticed that several of our forum members run two stoves. We have a prefab fireplace in the living room, but no longer lite a fire in it. From what I understand, the firebox is destroyed when the pellet stove is installed. So far, a little oil keeps the temps up. I used just under 200 gallons in the past 15 months, most of that went to a separate oil fired hot water heater.

My furnace ran about an hr to test its on propane stat set at 62 degree in case we leave on a trip
Will get 150 gal propane after first of the year should last till July. Cooking and hot water only on propane for now.

Furnace is on stand-by,set at 60*if needed. Was -26 here on tuesday morning and -21 on wednesday morning and the house was 74*burning uncle jeds on setting #3 on t-stat mode. Gotta Love It !!!

My furnace has been running briefly to carry the load when it dips down to 20 or less outside. It doesnt run very long, but I need to use it to warm up the far end of the house. My pellet insert keeps the living room and dining area toasty, but the far end of the house dips down to about 60 when its only 17 degrees outside. Furnace is natural gas, and rates are low again, so if it goes on for about 15 minutes a couple of times a night I'm happy thats a far cry from having it running every 10 minutes to warm the entire house.

My furnace runs 24/7 this time of year, except a couple hours when I shut it down to clean every weekend.

Furnace on as i speak, pellet cant keep up when it's 12 outside, have a 50's cape with all new windows/doors, I doubt the wall's have insulation, house is all tongue and groove boards and aluminum siding with cardboard, would love to rip it off and have insulation/vinyl siding and it's too cold on the far side of the house, no need to be cold when oil isn't that expensive, used 1/4 tank all last winter maybe use 1/2 this yr if it stays cold, have a oil forced air, it's noisey but only runs for 5 mins top's
Thinking of converting to gas and having all the ductwork redone as it's uninsulated sheetmetal in a cold basement.
You from wisconson saying your house is 74 at -26 unless you live in a small ranch 1 level i doubt any house with a pellet can stay that warm at those temps.

Wish we didn't have to run our furnace but the pellet stove is only for suplemental heat, keeps the living room toasty so we can set the thermostat to 67. The rest of the house stays cool (I like sleeping in a cold room). Another reason for the furnace is hot water - our only source.

Over the last 34 years (as long as we have lived here) we have used about (don't luagh!!!) 1100 gals/year, oil that is. Not a pretty picture but sometimes that's life. (the old rose garden promise again).

If I ever win the lottery I'll have someone come in, tear down all the sheet rock and have that expanding stuff put in, especially the living room ceiling.

Ran my furnace once at the beginning of the season to make sure it was ok it hasn't run since. I just got my NG bill for the month and it was 48.00 and 25.00 of that was their recovery fee? Last year my bill was already 250.00 and Jan and Feb were over 500.00 a month so i'm looking to pay for the stove in short order.

Used the furnace now and then during the shoulder season, but now that the
COLD weather is here to stay, it is no longer needed.
I do keep the switch in the "on" position for backup.
