If I bought in here in Michigan, the going rate is around $150 to $210 per cord. Of course most of the sellers around here call what they sell a face cord, which is 1/3 of a cord. What do guys in the east have to fork over if your buying?

The going rate in NS seems to be around $230.00/full cord of hardwood (mixed maple/birch) delivered in 2 cord lots. The consistency of length varies though. You can get every thing from 12 in. to 18 in.

I have a guy a few miles from me who is retired and cuts to order, but you have to pick it up. For a few years now I get 1 cord of smaller 4 in. split and one of 6-8 in., all are 16-18 in. length for $240.00/cord.

If I where to buy here in Ohio a measured very tightly stacked Cord of 128cuft or more fore good measure is 130.00 being 100% ash not mixed. All splits are about same size triangle and lengths exactly the same at 16"

I've seen anywhere from $200 to $300 per cord "seasoned". $25 to $50 less green. Most of the stuff sold on the South Coast, MA seems to be oak, maple, or some other hardwood that I've noticed. I'm not even sure if someone could supply you with softwood if you wanted it around here.

One place local to me charges less if you can make use of larger (18-20") splits, vs. smaller (14-16") ones.

Hanko, there is a fellow selling white ash up here. He is 4 miles west of M-52 along M-57. His price is $35 per face cord and he is selling a lot of it. The bad part is that it is all fresh cut. I saw him out cutting again this week and he is not even cutting dead ash. He is clearing out a ditch. Well, he has sold a lot so far. I think most others are selling at $40-$45 per face cord.

Most people here buy logs by the truckload and do their own processing. Minimum order usually is 10 or 12 cord and Birch goes for around $80 a cord while Ash fetches $100. One wood monger here is selling cut/split Birch not seasoned for $100 a pickup bed loaded level with the sides, cash and carry. Depening on bed size that would equal between a sixth and a third of a cord.

$35 for a face of ash is well worth it to me. I just paid $50 for several and was glad to get it.

I am getting a load of green cherry and black birch tonight or tomorrow for $140/cord. I just missed a "Christmas Special" of $150/cord for the first cord, $100 for each additional one. I called the guy after Christmas and he said he was only doing it to get extra Christmas money, new price is $200/150 for each additional one. So far, $140 is the best price I've seen for green c/s/d hardwood his year.

Seasoned (split and stacked for a year) I've seen for as little as $225 for multiple cords, and as high as $260 for a "Fireplace Cord" (NYS Weights and Measures will love that term) of "aromatic cherry"... which is a stack of 16" long wood 3' high and 11' long. About a face cord by most definitions. That's $780/cord. But I can assure you, this stuff is very well seasoned.

45 - 50 dollars per face cord here in Northern New York.

Three ton dump truck load of pretty meaty slab wood cut to length, $110.00. It's been hard to get the past two years because of the recession, but I have managed to get all that I need. It just takes a month or so for them to deliver. It used to take two days. It's a mix of hard and softwood.

They use to have a deal where you could come to the mill and fill up anything you bring for $15.00. It was meant for poor people to come by and get a pick up load for cheap. Then a few people started bringing dump trucks with lowboys hooked to them and filling them up to resell, so they changed the rules a bit. It's still pretty cheap if you pick it up yourself.

175 to 250 for a full cord. I don't think anyone around here sells face cords.

About $180-$200 per cord for oak or mixed hardwood. The usual claims of seasoned and dry.

My day job pays too well and the BMWs would probably drive me to the point I'd run out of places to hide the bodies. I read where one buyer would call his wood monger to not only come rake up and haul away the bark and chips but to also demanded he replace it with the same amount of wood. After all, he paid for wood, not trash.

I think I'll keep my BOFH day job.

Had a guy come for a bundle of slabs last Jan. He pointed out the one he wanted deep in the stack. I said , "No you don't want any wood outta that pile, it's too far gone! It's gonna be ground for mulch in the spring. You want some beech outta that pile over there." He went over and looked and insisted I sell him the bundle he first pointed at. I said it's gonna be extra if I have to move those other bundles to get to that one in the middle of the pile. He agreed. I obliged.

2 days later I get an email complete with pics of a mess in his drive of lots of bark, sawdust, and rotten wood where they had cut it up. Nice blacktop drive in a nice subdivision mind you. He wanted it cleaned up and more wood at no charge.
I kindly replied and reminded him that he paid me and when the cash hit my hand the contract was fulfilled.

He responded, letting me know his lawyer wood be contacting me.
I laughed and hit delete.
AHHHHHHH !!!! A day in the life of a firewood jockey!

Wood is all over the board here. $135-$350.

It was on a different forum but could well have been the same moron. They do breed like rabbits though so hard to tell.

You'd have to have the patience of Job (biblical reference) to not suffer fools.

Wow! I am always amazed at the price differences across the country when this topic comes up...

Firewood advertised as a cord here runs $90 to $120 on average - cut and split. "face cord" or "rick" or "truck bed full" can be found for $40 to $75. This is tree overgrown rural MO. Supply is large and demand is not.

Around NNJ, it runs about $ 170- $200 a cord. But you have to watch them because they will bring a pickup load and once stacked - it will be shy of a cord.

My BIL lives up in NH and the cost of firewood up there and in MASS seems high to me. Some get $ 300-$400 for seasoned cords.

Here's some prices from a Denver metro area supplier. Delivery is another $50 or so bucks from these guys. May see prices a bit lower depending but these are a pretty good average:

Pine: Easy to Start
Full cord: $195 (Buy Now)
½ cord: $110

Aspen: Easy to Start. Clean burning.
Full cord: $195 SOLD OUT!
½ cord: $110

Pinon: Very Fragrant, Harder Pine, Longer Burning, Repels Mosquitoes!
Full cord: $325 (Buy Now)
½ cord: $180

Cedar: Fragrant, Medium Burning, Sparks
Full cord: $325 SOLD OUT!

Missouri Oak: Hot, Long Burning, Great for Home Heating
Full cord: $425 SOLD OUT!
½ cord: $240

Ash: Called the "Firewood of Kings" “Ash wood wet or ash wood dry, a King will warm his slippers by.†Don’t know who made up the verse but it is true. If you can have only one firewood pick white ash. Ash can be safely burned green or cured unlike any other wood that I know of. The moisture content of just cut ash is only a few percentage points higher than it is when cured and so it will burn readily in your woodstove with no start up or creosote problems. It also has good heat value almost as high as oak.
Full cord: $425 SOLD OUT! Expected by 12/23
½ cord: $240

Osage Orange: Hottest burning. Highest BTU of all firewood. At 32.9 million BTU that is equal to approximately 250 gallons of heating oil per cord. At the current price of $2.95 per gallon (according to EIA 10/14/2010)for heating oil, that would put the equivalent heating oil cost per cord at over $700!
Full cord: $545 ***SALE PRICE*** $495 per cord (***minimium 1 cord purchase) (Buy Now)
½ cord: $290

Hickory : Great for Smoking, Hot Burning
