I have an old kodiak woodstove in the basement. Thirty years old. It's a real dinosaur. I don't know what to do with it. It does have some, but not much sentimental value. I could take it outside and use it as an incinerator, or maybe a smoker.
Any ideas out there?

clean it up and put it up for sale. I bet you'd be amazed what you can sell it for.

I can't sell whiskey to the indians. I'd rather just put it outside and find some-kind of use for it.

Great for corn roasting in the summer. You'd be amazed at how many years a stove can survive in the back yard.

Hmmm... That time again. They make great fireboxes for meat smokers.

Ours is used for burning papers and such outdoors. I planned on also using it for boiling sap to make maple syrup but have not done that yet.

They make good mailbox stands. You could just toss the junk mail in the lower door and light it.

Notice how Brother Bart extended his flue to meet the backyard smoker 10-3-2 rule: 10 beers, 3 friends, not 2 smoky.

But with a different type of pipe - isn't that a no-no?

My stove is going in my shop, that stove has been good to me.

Bart, how many pounds of venison can you get in that one. I might just have to my VC in the basement. Great Idea.

Holds lots of pork butts, ribs and chickens. The drawers are great. I usually only fire it twice a year. Spring and Fall. Load it up and level the filing cabinet out at 220-250 degrees, load it and around 14 hours later it is chow time. I freeze most of it each time and enjoy it over the summer and the winter.

1) Sell it through your local weekly shopper or craigslist . . . you would be surprised what folks will buy
2) Scrap it . . . take it to the scrap metal yard and use the money to buy some new woodstove toys
3) Turn it into an outdoor smoker

If it was easy to put it back in I would, just to see if it heats like I remember it, not liking the cold weather here.

Pull the sides off the PE. It'll be easier and faster.

You have got me thinking about that, I can take the one off with no problem but the other one is too close to a wood cabinet, just might do that tonight.

When I want to remember how my old stove heated I just go out back and light it up.

Actual pic from its stack.

Yep, watch the clearances. That's another advantage of the new stove. Much tighter clearances.

BB... that is a work of art. Wish I had that here when my kid got married. He really wanted to offer ribs, but the little thing I call a smoker can only do a rack at a time.

LL, I think I like your idea best. Please tell me that that is actually your mailbox, it'll make my day.

Totally agree with backwoods savage. Boil down the sap. Had that oppertunity a couple years ago to inherit a stove for the back yard. miss out. Still a little disappointed.

I love this thread! BBart, that's really a file cabinet?! I love the mailbox one! The paint looks a lot better on that one than the ones I see on craigslist all the time! and Boxerdogheidi - that looks like an EPA stove!!

Yep. File cabinet. Slide out the drawers and a standard dollar store aluminum broiling pan fits in them perfectly. No muss, no fuss just fall off the bone tender and smoked to perfection.

Geez, look at that flame. No wonder you used to torch the creosote in the old flue once a week.
