I am in Canada and it seems impossible to order from Grainger. I talked to several departments and all they could do was direct me to their sister company in Canada. (They don't carry ignitors).
When I called my local retailer I am being quoted $170 +15% tax!
Has anyone from Canada ordered from Grainger?

A lot of retail companies will not deal with the various customs regulations of other countries for small purchases.

It can get to be a real pain in the hind end.

My wife used to pack and ship items the required paperwork and requirements were always changing, some funny restrictions as well.

Jeez, 28 bucks compared to 170.00, give me the part # and your address and i'll send it to you, paypal me whatever it cost.

Watch out for customs, do the proper paperwork.

Go right ahead, just make sure you have all of the right paper work when that package gets checked at the border.

You are sending materials into a foreign country.

Just make certain you don't wind up on the wrong side of things.

Likely it won't be a problem, but that means zero. I don't have any current lists of embargoed items or materials. I also don't have any of the current custom regulations of Canada.

That is what I was talking about earlier. Usually companies would deal in large quantities in order to make the paperwork and such worthwhile.

You have to play by the laws of two countries here.

Luckily the monetary part will be so small you won't have to file money transfer reports with the IRS.

Don't ask how I know this, that was a prior life.

swallow the igniter....regurgitate it after crossing the border. works every time. ;-)

Yes I know, a lot to do about nothing.

But with the way things can go it pays to be aware of what you need to look into.

The OP could check ebay.ca there are a number of pellet stove parts being auctioned there and in addition some have buy it now tags and I'm sure there are links to shops in Canada.

I know where you're coming from. I've been back and forth a dozen times.....all but once was I stopped and had my vehicle searched, and been given the 1000 questions. And, No, I dont have a criminal record.

I wonder if you could rent a post office box over the border in the US and have it shipped there.

My offer stands, give me a part #, your address and send me a paypal payment and i'll go to the US post office and ship it. This all sounds ridiculous.

I have a lot of Canadian customers that are close to the US border that do this, but it wouldn't work if you live hours away from te border :)

Customs should not be that big a deal on a small item. Just put an accurate description and value of the item on the declarations form.
You usually have more problems with sending items to unfriendly nations (Middle East, parts of Africa, etc). We like Canada most of the time :)

Actually there are a lot of countries that will return or destroy shipments of certain items from the US. Lots of funny regulations out there in the world.

Chris288, I sent you an email.
As far as customs go, I just got an ignitor via eBay from Georgia (wrong size...), and it went through customs via USPS without any problems...
Thanks for all your help and suggestions.

As long as the paper work is correct everything generally works.

Yeah you just get the little green label at the Post Office, fill it out and stick it on the box and it will go fine. UPS and FedEx are a whole nother story. They hit you with a fee for being your customs brokerage agent. About fifty bucks.
