So in honour of the NHL classic game tomorrow that is hoped to be played outdoors.... If the weather cooperates....

This year we have gone 30 by 75 with end boards with mesh - because I am tired of losing pucks.

Nothing better then playing hockey on a outside rink, brings back good memories from playing and coaching, nice job.

Happy New Year

You have the lights so play at night, The NHL changed there game time to 8:00 PM!

i just moved my skates in the downstairs closet today. and on a hanger is my old skating jacket littered with old patches. gotta get on the ice this summer after ski season is over. love the picture and always dreamed of a rink in our back yard growing up. you really have a nice set up. pete

Nice job on the rink! Looks like it would hold a lot of water.. Make sure those lights are plugged into a GFCI outlet to be safe..

Yes, proper outlets in place. Yes, the liner is holding lots of water in its now solid form.

Given our local climate we don't need to worry about moving games to the evening to keep the ice in good shape.

Each year I get 15 sick days. Right now I have 200. If I had a rink like that I would have none.
Have fun!

15 sick days??? Holy cow I'd get fired if I was out that long.. I get 3 days and I only use them if necessary, we can't roll the days over if unused and do not get paid for them if we don't use them.. I for one never abuse this sort of thing, must be how I was raised..

Awesome set up on the rink!! the lights will make for some late night fun!!! i would like to put one in my yard, but for now we go to the indoor rink and rent the time on the ice...

I want to play but I don't have blades for my walker. Enjoy it while you're young.

Very nice rink!

This year we made a 24' x 40' and the boys have been out playing every chance they get. Next year I will go bigger ;-P

Great memories of when my Dad made a rink for my brother and I!!

Have fun.

Nice rinks guys. How warm can it get without trashing the ice if you stay off it?

Anyone want to share the How To's on creating/maintaing a rink? I've always wanted to do this!

Really nice rink looks like a mirror finish!

Ray

It's actually very simple. We bought a 30' x 50' tarp, then we made the boards to a size that the tarp would fit in. Once all in place we filled the whole thing with water.

Last week we had 2 days of rain and very warm temps and all the ice melted and then once cold weather arrived it froze again.

The tarp cost $80.00 at a local hardware store and the boards were free.
