Long Island NY
I was making room for some recently purchased Hammers!!!! Great Pellet!!! on sale $3.74 a bag at lowes on Long Island less 10% coupon I had, never seen any pellet that cheap around here. I found a bag of Appling County Pellets. UUUGGGHH! this was the first brand of pellets I used in my Englander stove and made me think there was something wrong with my stove!!! Tons of ash, dirty window glass no heat, brought back nightmare. I burnt the bag last night good ridence, I will need to clean my stove again. So far for me in order of success this year
I spoke to my dealer about the appling county pellets because they were horrible and I didnt buy from him this year. He told me he heard a rumor that Pallet wood was mixed in with the rest of the pellet fibers. Makes sense they SUCKED!!!!!

Hammers
Somersets
Clean Energy
american wood fiber tied with stove chow not bad
Penniningtons and presto logs tied for last place better then in years past

ACP were horrible.... we tried a truckload.... never again!

ACP's are generally considered amongst the worst pellet here!!!

Tried em. They quickly made my stove dirtier than any of
the dozen or so other brands I've burned.

You will get more heat from a book of matches then the Apling County Pellets.

What lowe's and where did you get the 10% coupon? Thanks

Both Patchogue and Medford, NY had Hamer Pellets 3.74 a bag as of this past weekend. Home Depot Patchogue had Stove Chow, not bad, also 3.74 a bag. go for the Hamer's first

live in nassau, my lowes has greenway any good?

I used Greenway last year with pretty good luck. Id call around for the Hamer pellets 1st I know there are a couple of lowes in Nassau and one on the suffolk side of farmingdale Lowes usually charges 5.97 a bag so make sure you tell them at Patchogue and Medford it is 3.74. Also Home Depot is 3.74 scoop them up with oil comming up to 100.00 a barrel pellets usual track fuel. Cant believe they are selling them at this price on the island

It's a shame that their pellets are junk. I actually toured that plant shortly after it opened. State of the art everything. Good people too... As with any plant, if you don't have good wood, then you won't get good fuel. Most of their fiber is from Southern Yellow Pine which is know for high silica (sand) content from the soil. That and those trees are literally harvested every 5 years (or so), so there isn't much maturity to the wood. Fram Fuels (maker of ACP's) was actually set up to be an export fuel producer for European municipal power/heat production (like the infamous Dixie Pellet). The lucrative pellet market from a few years back pulled them into the consumer fuel market as well. It might have been a plan all along, but it didn't seem like it when I was there. Unfortunately, their fiber base will change little, so they might be at the bottom of the list indefinitely.

I would switch back to oil before I endured using ACP pellets again. Why would anyone knowing produce crap. My dealer was real upset with ACP and lost many customers because of them. Like me.

My local dealer started selling them and I grabbed 10 bags just to try them. After 5 bags through the stove, I threw the remaining bags in the back of my pickup truck for weight. They did work well for traction once when I got stuck on the ice while plowing snow.
