I'm fine if I lose power here. Stove for heat, and I sealed off half my kitchen this winter because it's a heat sink. The fridge is in the cold half where it's already 40F. Redneck refrigerator.

The worst power outage I ever experienced was in soFL after a hurricane. 2 weeks. Lost my fridge food. No a/c or fans. Just hot misery trying to sleep while every neighbor around me ran a generator. At some point we packed up and went camping.

A few years ago we were out of power for ten days. I emptied the fridge and packed the stuff in a single wall Rubbermaid box in a snow bank out back. Nothing even came close to defrosting.

I did that a couple weeks ago, though I just threw everything in on of the spare cars parked in the yard. Was -10* outside so I wasn't too worried either haha.

Some of the best fun we had as kids was when the power went off.
We cooked with the fireplace, used candles for light and slept on the floor in
front of the fire to stay warm.
The power going off always makes me smile! (It just doesn't happen much
where we are now.)

Your fridge will work better and you'll benefit from the waste heat in winter, if it's in the warm half of the room. They aren't designed to run in a cold environment and actually can have trouble maintaining a cold enough temp in the freezer, while fridge section gets too cold (assuming ambient is below 32).

We have frequent power outages here. They can last 3 hours, or 4 days.
I love stove top cooking, and can make some good meals on it.
Built a rack to lift the pots off the stove top to keep from over heating them to.
Also have the generator in the garage always on the ready, and a 5 gallon jerry can off gas for it.
Best item I bought for the house in the past few years is our champion generator.
The honda we have is okay, and still use it for small stuff, but its output is too low to run much.
With the wood stove going, and the champion running, its really no big deal to have no power.
It used to suck with just the honda, as it could not run the water pump, or even keep the fridge, and all 3 deep freezes going, if all 3 freezers were full and needed cooling.
Heck my wife showers, uses the hair dryer, kids watch TV, 2 computers on, lights, fridge going, etc. now.
Its a good life i have, love it here. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
