I have't yet noticed a pellet that I could say was particularly pleasant, but i can tell you about the worst pellet aroma that I have experienced. I found the inferno pellet to have what I thought was a chemical smell. Not something I want in my house. I only bought one bag to see how they burn in my XXV. Like most of the reviews that I have read on here, I was not impressed with them.

All the soft wood pellets I have burnt have smelled the best to me, a nice woody pine type smell.

I have put about 10 tons of pellets into the hopper since I got my stove, and I have yet to smell anything. I have a sensitive nose and Im a non smoker as well. If anything they smell like wood...

You shouldn't be smelling them burn INSIDE your house. If you are, you have a leak somewhere and I hope you have good CO detectors!

I don't smell ANYTHING with my new Lopi Pioneer.

See my previous post on the Whitfield Profile 20 where I had a crack in the fire box. Not good.

My unit has a rod to clear the ash from the heat exchanger. I am sure I get a very small amount of air passing through that gap. I don't think it is enough to cause a CO issue (although I have several detectors).

I am burning the Pennington Oak pellets and they have a nice smell. The smell is VERY faint though. We are not talking fireplace smell that can cloud a room. I didn't notice much smell from the Hamer Hot Ones I was burning earlier.

I'd have to say it is all in the preference of the burner. I love the smell of the Lignetics I normally burn as they have a nice sweet odor, but last year I switched to Rocky Mountain for that season and I hated the very pungent pine smell from them. I know people are saying you should never smell them when burning, but I have a Pinnacle PB150 boiler and when I open the door to stir the pot I let some of that odor out into my house. In my experience the pellets smell similar when burning to when you open a fresh bag.
