Did you clean your ESP? Everything your stove does is based upon what that sensor thinks is going on inside your stove.

breaking it down in simple solutions you either have to much fuel or not enough air for combustion.
Fuel as in poor pellets could be the answer but you seem to have eliminated that possibility
that leaves us with a blockage of combustion air or vent pipe. You cleaned the vent pipe so that eliminates that possibility.
How about the exhaust fan? clean? Does the 68 have a ESP probe? That could be dirty and cause the problem.
Does the 68 have a small adjusting screw that either speeds up or slows down the exh fan? If it does try turning it in hopes it will speed up the exh fan and the result will be a hotter flame.
I am going by my experiences with a PC45 so the above may not apply.

Are you using tap water instead of distilled, and is your tap water hard?

In a similar thread on this forum: HandymanWire--OrangeFlame, they decided that the humidifier will spray the minerals in the water into the air. The most common mineral in hard water is calcium -- which will burn with an orange flame.

wow, never thought of that, however I have city water, but it seems reasonable so I will try my spring water we drink in my humidifier. Now if anyone has ideas about my never ending creosote problem. So far I have cleaned whole unit, as usual I have never let it go very long, I changed my esp and door gasket and have run it with and with out oak. A tech has come out and changed burnpot and bad burnpot gasket. My old burnpot was a factory recall so no charge, however they did put in wrong new burnpot a p61 rather than p68, creosote presets, I can scrape it clean and run it. everything looks great awesome flame nice heat but after only a few hours it's back! Tech will be out on friday to change out burnpot. At this point all I can think of is my 3" vert pipe thats about 10', is my evl really out of wack so bad to cause this?

Exactly what do you have for a vent setup?

I'm having the same issue with a P38+ that I've had no problems with for the past 2 years. I read in another post somewhere here of someone who had the same problem, replaced the flame guide, and now no more creosote. You may want to check into that. I am having my dealer order a replacement for me to see if that works.

wow that would be easy, seems to simple plus my flame guide looksfine, post how it works out, also were's your creosote showing up mines on firewall under bricks. Smoky, my vert. pipe outside is 6' with 1 90degree and a t. Inside I have a 6" horizontal with a 45 degree, I also have about a 6" horizontal outside.Keep in mind that this stove has run 4 seasons without any creosote.

Get a supper sucker on that vent and clean it out.

You likely have a buildup in the pipes and with 3" piping you are over the nominal limit of 15. What counts here is how much ash your current crop of pellets is putting out, where it settles out, and how dense the pellets are. It may just make enough difference.

Depending on what books you look at you have a total EVL of 16.5, 17 or 19.

I run just just below the limit for 3" piping and make a point to keep the vent as clean as possible otherwise I have problems trying to burn dense pellets after 30 or so bags.

I can't remember if you mentioned checking the door gasket or not, if you did and changed it, I hope you didn't stretch it in the process.

yes I changed my door gasket , I think it went on with out being stretched. This year I'm burning energex and all and all I'm satisfied with them, not too much ash, not like last year when I used pellets.com pellets. So I do clean that 45 with a brush, but you think maybe I should pull stove apart and clean out real good that 45? I have this tech coming out on friday to change out my burnpot, I'll have him help me pull the stove out and clean out all those inside pipes. I think we might be pulling out the unit to lok at auger area.

I'm talking about the entire vent stack, but in particular the horizontal portion that's your 45 degree and the other 1' of horizontal plumbing. It only takes a small amount of ash build up in the venting to cause problems, the smaller the venting the sooner the problems occur.

Now I'm not saying this will take care of your problem but it will not make it any worse.

and dont forget to remove the ESP probe before you run a brush through the opening behind the combustions blower (you might know this, just a suggestion)

Mine is showing up on both firewalls next to the burn pot, under the ledge the firebrick rests on. It also extends down the sides of the burn pot. I haven't had any issues with it anywhere else in the stove. My flame guide isn't cracked, but it appears a bit warped, and I have flames coming up behind the flame guide out of the burn pot, so I don't think it's seating properly anymore.

yes , sounds similar, as far as the flame behind the burnpot, thats most likely a bad burnpot gasket. Have you had anyone out to look at it ? If so what have they told you? If , or I should say when I fix mine I will be sure to post so you can see what it was. please can you do the same?
