NEPA Center Valley
Hello all!
Rob Wilkinson logging in for the first time from Center Valley Pa.
The wife & I just had an Ecoteck "Veronica" series pellet stove installed.
www.ecoteck.us
The local electric company has gone and increased their rates by 30% and our home, built in '76, is 100% electric.
We looked into solar, but the initial cost was astronomical.
Our stove has the ability to split the airflow from 100% out the front to 100% out the back into two round ducts via a baffle under the hopper lid.
Right now we're running 100% out the front of the unit and using the pickup for our heat pump in fan only mode to circulate the air.
I'm going to make a youtube video tonight or tomorrow morning with a quick walkthrough of the stove and the houses layout.
I'm thinking we MIGHT run the two rear ducts up into the attic and down to the other end of the house where the coldest rooms are located if the heat pump fan isn't enough to circulate the air from the front of the unit.
Sorry for the rambling post... we're just getting out of work right now & I have to log off.
I look forward to getting everyones advice on the best way to move the heat around our home
:)

Welcome, welcome. And can I say....I love you man. GOODJOB! You have one of the niftiest stoves on the market. The Europeans have all the good toys. I can sit and watch those stoves burn for hours. Just for kicks, can you program the stove to send me txt message alerts? I would like a relationship with your stove. My number is at the bottom of my sig.

Hello, and welcome to the forum. i am from Kutztown, not too far from you. Where did you come across this stove. Seems pretty advanced and has some nice features. Hope it treats you well.

Hello and Welcome to the Forum. Look Forward to seeing your video...

Welcome aboard !!!

Great looking stove. All kinds of bells and whistles. Built in humidifier, now that's a nice touch.

Gotta post some pics and video....... :)

Thank you all for the welcome messages!
We picked this guy up at Gasworks in Frasier Pa.
Stove, install & a ton of pellets was just under 5800.00
Pricey, but it does a lot of cool stuff. (Yes, there really us a module to send & receive info via TXT for it) :)
I'm hoping to get away with simply adding a duct booster fan to my system & not have to run the rear air lines into the attic to get to the colder rooms directly.....
I'll be making that video tomorrow morning. Hopefully you guys will be able to steer me in the right direction.
My next project is to make a homemade pellet mill.

Welcome to the forum. Looks like a nice stove with a lot of bells and whistles no doubt. I see they even have an Air Plus model that will duct out the backside at the same time as the front. Like a seperate blower for the ducting area. The stove is very pricey, but I hope it gives you many years of good service. I dont see any inserts on their page, so I assume they dont make those. Would like to see the video of how it works, and being made in Italy Im sure its a good quality stove.

Ok.... Newb question.... (braces self) what is a "pellet pig"?

Search around this forum, you can find out all about the legendary pellet Pig and it's grand status. :)

Heres a place to start......

Imacman gives a good classroom lesson here:

......We need the grand pooba and 2nd high command macman to weight in.

By the way, I'm at level 3. Still haven't been givin the OK as a pellet pig. I was just trying to give everyone pig status.

jay

OK, first of all, let me clear one thing up....the person who started the Pellet Pig movement is none other than eernest4 (you pellet pigs should be ashaimed of yourselves!), who is the Grand Poobah. I am not the 2nd High Grand Pooba...that honor belongs to Eric at Kinsman. I am but a simple Pellet Pig Treasurer (remember to keep sending those Bi-annual $50 dues ;-) )

Now, that being said, the original pellet Pig "charter" called for a minimum of 3 tons and you had to have had hauled it yourself in a pickup truck. 4 tons and up, you were a pig even if you had them delivered.

As for "levels", I'm all for that, but I think it should be the other way.....Level 1 is for 3 tons + pickup truck, etc. etc , and the highest level (after level 5 Hogzilla), would be Hogzilla Gold!!

We could even have "piglet" level (less than 3 tons).

Anyway, you get the idea.

Welcome to the forum. Cool stove!
Can't wait to see it!

Again,
Thanks for the WARM (ba dump bump :)) welcome!
I didn't get a chance to make that video yet. (It was an extremely busy morning)
I'll try to get it made up and posted tonight when I get home from work.

As for the pellet pig status, I've got one ton in the garage that came with the stove. (Hammer pellets... I think)
I'm in the process of designing and building a multi stage pellet mill to take virtually any and all yard waste ( & other bio-mass material) in at one end and produce pellets at the other...... I expect to have the prototype finished & ready to start the patent process in about a month...

Welcome aboard PPLcangotoh.

Those ecotecks are some of the most modern looking stoves out there. Can't wait to see the video of it burning? I have wanted to go check them out but there is no local dealer in my area. Having the option to duct to other rooms is a nice feature.

Making your own pellet mill is cool, Love to hear more on that too. :)

Well it flies, is very heavy, is a bit unstable, and if it hits you it will hurt. The current crop of pellet pigs are in training.

BTW Welcome to hearth.com, home of the pellet pigs.

Hi my name is SmokeyTheBear and I'm a pellet pig.

Ahhh.
I'm seeing the Pellet Pig pattern now.
We expect to go through 1 1/2 to 2 tons per season (new stove is Uber efficient, the insulation of the house, not so much)
Once I get my mill fabbed up & running I'll have pellets all over the place.

Great looking stove. Thanks for sharing. I am still shopping for one. First thought an insert, and now thinking a stove.

Hi Neighbor, I am not to far from your area and PECO for me is going up 10% in 2011 so I just got a pellet stove last month ( all electric house too). So far so good and I got a ton that came with mine in the garage too. I had some questions and issues in the beginning and everyone here is helpful and they were right about everything!

Good luck and cannot wait for you to post pics and see that video, that is one sharp stove.

Just wondering since you have now had your stove in for a month, how is it burning? I am interested to see how well this unit operates may possibly be thinking of adding it to our line that we sell. Happy heating! :)

We really like it. Unfortunately I bought 3,000 lbs of Pennington Pellets that had lots of fines and dust and the Auger Jammed after 9 days or about 1300 lbs. Since then I have been cleaning/vacuuming the pellets and have had no issues. We are heating a large space with 9' ceilings and keep it running on high when it is below 40 degrees outside. So after a month at 120 lbs a day I can say I am very happy with it. I still have some Penningtons but am using Southern States (Hamer brand relabeled) since it is colder outside and just pour the bags in. We looked at other models but really liked the large hopper on this one. Not many others can hold over 100 lbs and look nice. We have the nickle kit which dresses it up nicely.

When I got my Ecoteck, I was unaware of any of there stoves having 100 lb hoppers. Mine holds a little more than a bag so I just fill it once a day. I did consider getting a ductable unit but just didn't end up doing it. I am interested in seeing your video.
Do you have it posted on youtube yet? Thanks

GPRS scary thought what if someone could "hack" your stove you would come home to a really hot house.

Time for a blast from the past & re-ignite this thread. :) ( sense of humor hasn't changed )

We still run the Veronica... but I have to say the it's temperamental unless you clean it out no less than every other day.

I'm sure that at least a few of the EcoTek owners here know of the dreaded "no depress" error code. Usually right at startup or as the hopper gets low. It'll be burning fine & shut down.

I had the local stove guy come in & tear it apart last season for a "Professional" cleaning & things are much better.

THIS year we had the old wood burning insert removed & out a Harman Accentra insert in its place. Best move EVER.

The Veronica barely even needs to kick on anymore.

I hope everyone's doing well & will try not to drop off the planet this time.

Welcome back ! I have an Ecoteck Elena, burning 3 seasons now...never had an issue with the "No Depress" alarm. I clean out the combustion chamber and ash-pan about every 120 to 160 pounds of pellets. Enjoy the Accentra! Which pellets are you burning this season?
