We are having trouble with our humidifier leaving a film on our furniture. Just bought the unit this weekend at Sears ultrasonic model very quiet and seems to work very well but the wife is finding a film or haze on furniture near the humidifier. We have an insert that we burn 24/7 so we need a way to replace some of the moisture in the air. I have one of those 1/2 pot steamer deals on top of the insert from Condar but it adds very little moisture so we need an additional source. Any ideas? This forum has been a great source of ideas so I appreciate any help you can offer.

Our stove is in the bas3ment, and we're at 25% and it's "dry," but we're WARM which is more important....We thought about buying a humidifier, but the electric costs + noise level, it just doesn't seem worth it, but I'm guessing soem pro-humidifier people will chime in. Yeah, our one gallon kettle is more for aesthetics, but we pour some cinnamon in, and it gives off a nice smell.

Good luck!

If when you wipe the haze with a white paper towel it comes off gray or black you have moisturized the ash dust that settled when you take ash out of the stove.

If its like the unit I have those are mineral deposits from your water. You can try a Brita or other method at demineralization of the water before putting it in your humidifier. If you use a de-humidifier in the summer you can save that water in milk jugs to use in the winter.
