The halfway point by degree days is about a week away, but with the extra sun in the second half, I consider now to be about the halfway point. I'm just a tiny bit more than halfway through my wood, so I'll be burning a little oil in the late winter/early spring. How's everybody else doing?

I started burning a little earlier than usual this year (new stove/toy, couldnt help myself). My woodshed is still half-full (or half-empty,depending what kind of person you are). I dont have as much in 'dry reserve' as I would like, but I'll make it thru March. Next year, and thereafter, I'll forever be ahead. ;-)

"May your woodshed always be full, and your wife as hot as your stove."

I think I'm a little over half way through this year's wood in the barn. This is my first full year burning and started with close to 5 cord. I'm interested to see how I make out. Once early March hits, I'll be able to get away with two burns per day - solar does real well for me at that point. With the frigid temps we've been having, the wood is going away a lot quicker. probably 10 more splits per day (I use about 30 splits per day during normal temps (high in 20's, low in teens). Cheers!

Edit: P.S. - I do have PLENTY of good wood in my outside stacks, so I'm in fine shape if I do run out - I'll just need to steal a little from next year's wood.

All good. First year I can say that.

i'm guess-timating about 30% used up and converted into ash. no problems here. have only lhad about 14 nights that were below 0 with the coldest of -28f. but, i'm sure the coldest is yet to come. hits -40f at least once every winter.

Started the season with an 8-cord pile and 1/2 full boiler room

Right now -

Full boiler room
Bunch of chubby gurls just outside the boiler room, waiting for a cold night (chubby Gurls know how to keep you warm)
~4-cord pile of logs

oh!, and an 8-cord pile :vampire:

wanna get that log pile up to 8 cord by April 1.

....um..ok. I'm bitchin thats its ARCTIC when the temp is below 20 degrees F !! I guess everything is relative. ;-P

The 4 cords I started with in the garage isn't gonna make it. The wife retired this year, which made a difference. Digging out some more wood from underneath the snow is not gonna be fun.

The half way point may be near but the temperatures go up a lot slower than they went down. The coldest part of winter happens for us next week.

Can't say I've used half yet. There is still about 18 cord out there.

I'm just over half way, too (I've burned about 6.5 of my 12 cord). I had a lot of soft wood, so I'm not surprised. I've got an extra cord of hardwood in the garage, ready to bring in, and I'll probably put it in when I only have a cord left in the basement wood room. And I've got about 10 cord cut for this fall, so I can steal from that if I have to. It's been a warm winter in Atlantic Canada so far. I've only got 8-10" of snow on the ground. I put in a lot of (free to me from my own property) softwood, mixed with my maple hard wood, just to save a few bucks, and to see how the Econoburn liked the soft wood. So far so good!
Happy burning.

4.5 of the 6.5 cords in cellar gone. This was mixed slab, and cord, hard and soft of both. I have more outside if needed. First year with new-used boiler, first year not freezing, first year with almost no oil (20? gallons) I have 2600 sf radiant, insulated and good windows, hows that sound for usage?

If this is the halfway point I'm in trouble . I thought I had enough C/C/S for this winter but must have not caculated right. I just picked up some Ash and it measures 24% so It might go in if I run out

I'm about 2 cords in right now with with 12 or so that are ready to go if needed. I started the season with 15 but I've given some away along the way.

This is my pile I split last year.
The other pic is the wood I need to split for the future.
I believe with our new stove I will use a whole lot less wood than before.
We use to go through about 9 cords a year with our old fireplace. We now have a high efficient fireplace that we can heat our whole house with
so we will be burning 24/7 vs about 12 hours a day. I am guessing, but I think we will use about 5 cords a year, and I have about 5 left already split.

The wood on the ground is about 99% Ash that was "standing dead" last summer. I figure I have about 3-5 years yet to split and another 3-5 still standing from where I got this.

You'd better give her a hand Jay. She hasn't split much since the last time I saw her sitting there.

No she has NOT! lol Running fast today not a good way to learn when I am WOT......

I went back through the pics I took when I first loaded the shed back in August. Each row is about a cord, and the left side of the shed was only about 4 ft. high instead of 6'.
So, I'm at just under 2 cord used. Started with just under 7 in the shed. We'll see how the 2nd half of winter goes.
Started burning middle of September.

My wood shed holds 4 rows (16" long splits) 6.5' high x 16' long- a bit over 4 cords by my calculation. First row is gone plus the top quarter of the 2nd row. Should be right on track for using 2.5-3 cords this season, just like the last 3-4 years. Last year I added a second fireview and am surprised to find that wood consumption has not really changed. Both stoves are only fired when outside temps are 10F or below- (which can be for weeks at a time in MN) otherwise one or the other is burning 24/7. Overall quite pleased with the efficiency of the wood burning set up and overall the house is much warmer than it was with natural gas forced air.

I have burned about 1/3 of my 4 1/2 cords for this year. As expected, I should have more than enough. That means next year's Oak will have a few months to season.

I have burned 4 cords. More than I expected at this point but it has been much colder than normal for around here. And since it has been colder I have burned the Jotul more. I should be ok, I have been actively looking for more dead elm/ash to help me along too. I was surprised how much wood I burned last month.

It's been sobering to see how fast the wood has disappeared this winter. We started burning earlier and we have burned way more often. Usually use around 3+ cords here. This looks like a 4 cord winter. I think my seasoned wood will hold out until the end of the season. Crossing my fingers.

I hope to make it through March. The wife is using the stove durring the day now so we are using alot more than last year.
I just cringe when my coworker told me she just paid $500.00 for oil. It will not last her a month. Our oil went on for 2 days when we were away for the holidays. I have already scrounged about 3 cords for next year. Thinking I need anothe 2 at least.
