I just picked up 20 bags of stove chow pellets from the hommey, they were 3.24 a bag. I loaded them in my ford 500 :bug:

I hear great things about these pellets and will report back with results...

Considering the price they go for, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Yeah i'll give em a shot but i have AWF and some instant heat, the AWF burn great instant heat not so much.. I seen a friend was burning the stove chows and i noticed they had a bright white hot flame so at 3,24 a bag why not. My poor ford 500 now has 800 extra lbs in it along with my fat azz we are topping 1000...... we shall see how the self leveling shocks work.

Can you say "helper springs"?

BTW, I thought you had a pick-up truck?

I do but i drive the 500 in to work (57 miles each way)and have been because it get twice the gas mileage as the F150's and the 500 is AWD and goes just like a tank. The other F150 is my plow truck and does not stray far from home.

woodsman23,

Most are saying good things about the Stove Chow this season. But there were a few complaints. I have been using them on and off when the colder days below 20ºF(any colder I switch to the Turmans left over from last season). Been keeping the house toasty warm. Less ash then the Omalleys I have been using on the warmer days. I'll get some more here shortly if HD or Lowes still has them. For what I got them for I have no complaints at all. Heck of a pellet for the money.

I picked up 2 bags of Nations Pride at lowes last night. Anybody used them yet?

I am finishing up the last few bags from the ton of stove chow I got from HD. They are the lighter pellet compared to last year. Good heat for the price, I had to open my air intake more than other pellets to keep from burn pot pile up though but once I adjusted that they were fine. More ash than the northern hardwoods though so thats the trade off. for the $30 difference / ton at this time of year I am getting a ton of northerns this weekend for my top feed st. croix and will burn the stove chow ( if HD has more) in my bottom feed VC Reliance.

I have used me Chevy Impala Pickup and hauled 25 bags. A bit of a low rider but still ran just fine.

Well i cleaned and setup the stove chow pellets and MAN they burn hot!!!. I mean hot, i usually have my thermostat at 72 and i had to lower it to 68 and the house was as warm as if it were aset t 72 and it was even colder outside. This morning it was -14 f and inside it was 71 was not a problem keeping it there. The chow's burn bright and they are a smaller size (maybe this is why they heat better?). At 3.24 a bag I'll be getting more. I was sitting in the cahir right next to the stove and it was 84 degrees.... way to go stove chow....

well, over a month ago i had bought a ton using a 10% discount, used my civic and picked up 10 bags ahead....tried them and canceled the other 40.
This stove chow was definitely NOT the same as the first ones i tried a little while back when they first came in to HD. Darker texture, lots more fines and lots of ash to my taste.

geek, i had the same issue except i was getting bags that were very light colored which were terrible, and the dark that i had burned GREAT, complete opposite from what you experienced......i got mine at the HD across from the shocase cinemas in southington

ok, i got mine from HD waterbury.

so far so good on stove chow, picked up 10 bags today to test after i cleaned out stove and hopper so far im happy pellets are smaller in size then my green teams, but it def will be my 2nd choice pellet when i cant seem to find green teams witch will happen i think, stove chow 3.74 a bag not too shabby

I guess Stove Chow is inconsistent. Geographically here on Long Island they have been pretty good compared to what we are used to. This year we got our first taste of Hamer's and Im very impressed, its like my Englander went from a stock to a turbo. I use less pellets and get more geat. In the end its my second year of burning. The pellets and how clean you keep are so important. As previously stated on this site my 1st batch of pellets were appling County, which I have learned are amongst some of the worst pellets ever made. The pellet is so important.

Bought a ton of Stove Chow from HD beginning of Jan. It seems to me that every 5-6 bags I get are ok and then I get 1 that burns really fast and cooler then the others. All off of the same pallet.

I am running way low on pellets, it has been one damn cold winter.

I need to stop at the local HD and see if I can score some some of these!

My HD hasn't had problems keeping the Chows in stock, every time I go out there, whether it's for a putty knife or a drill bit, I pick up 5-6 bags of Chow and throw it in my trunk. Every bag has burned nice and hot.

In an effort to become a small scale Pellet Pig I went to the Danvers, MA HD and grabbed two more tons of Stove Chow to lay in my supply for next season. I called yesterday and they said they had more than 10 tons of chow. I took two of the last 4 tons on the rack today. When I asked the sales guy if they were getting more he said yes. I further asked him if the Spring supplies coming in would stop the pellet deal and he said no and to expect regular shipments until mid to late Feb at least. So if you North Shore of Mass guys are waiting, you may want to pull the trigger soon. Call ahead to check for stock. They will be able to tell you what they have. You just can't beat $168 (incl 10% off). FYI, these are the exact same quality as the ton I bought a month ago.

Record high 76 in my house as I type with CHOW!!!!
21° ouside with snow, humidity makes a huge difference in feeling warm or cold.

Bought a ton of chow in december, pellets were a good uniform length burned well, almost zero fines, bought a ton on Tuesday, lots of broken pieces, more fines, non uniform lenghts, so I agree, there seems to be some consistency issues with chow.
