Burning Hunk

Hudson Valley NY
So it is all done!! New stove is in and I have moved in 7 tons of pellets inside. Had already put in 4 tons in Sep 09. Still have to move 1 more ton into the area. then the wife can park inside again. move the pellets inside the garage with a pallet jack. Weather in the New York is not the best so the move inside was to keep then dry. they are all dry inside!! You can see the old Whitfield siting to the side. Time to clean it up and sell it to a good home. I currently have 510 bags left to burn this year :) New Pellet PIG IN TOWN

the Whitfield is still good just want to upgrade. I like to make the stove last and not burn on high. whitfield would burn on 2 and provide the house about 60% of the heat. I brought the stove new and treated it like the fine machine it is. Last oil bill was over 580.00 and I got a case of the AS*. The new stove is now burning about 2 bags a day on # 2 and provides 100% of the heat even when it is on 4 DEG F outside.

congrats it is a nice looking unit. Im using a summer heat PDVC 25 I gotl it from Lowes. Burned wood for 2 decades before the pellet stove. Just getting to old to keep up with all the work. Good luck with the new stove. Most people would have been envious of the whitfield. but im a junior guy when it comes to pellet stoves. Lovin it. Private message me the details on your new unit. I would love to here more about the effieciency of it.

Do you actually burn that stove with 7 tons of fuel right next to it ?

If so you're a lot braver than I am... no way could I burn my stove next to even one sack of fuel. I keep anything that could possibly burn at 5 feet from the stove. And a very big Fire Extinguisher is within 6 foot of my unit.

Nice looking stove though, and you dont have far to go to get a bag of pellets...

oliveone,

You REALLY want to post or find out TODAY if you should store pellets so close to stove.

For safety reasons if something went wrong, ashould have fire extinquisher and carbon monoxide

detector in/near the stove room.

Personally, I would move them to another room. Thought i read somewhere pellets should be no closer than

30ft from stove, I may be wrong, but don't want to find out.

I was thinking the same but wasn't going to say it.

I'm guessing your floor is concrete? I put a ton in my bedroom and the floor started sagging like a banana.

30 feet would preclude you from having a stove in most any reasonable size room, there are things far easier to torch off than pellets in most houses within 30 feet.

I am going to venture a guess, that the pellets are in a basement "family room' or ???

I see what looks like a staircase heading up on the left side of the piccy.

Great deal

When the Whitfield was in the fireplace it was fine. Yes this is in the basement with a cement floor. We have a raised ranch. The short stack on the right is the one that had me worried so I stopped adding to the stack. It is about 25 inches from the stove. That is why the last ton is still in the garage. I have a smoke detector/CO2 and fire extinguisher right at the bottom of the stairs. Below is from the owner’s manual. It is odd that other combustible materials can be closer then the pellets.

Enviro Maxx OWNER’S MANUAL

Store pellets at least 36†(1 m) away from the pellet stove.

Warning: Never place wood, paper, furniture, drapes or other combustible materials within 80cm (31 1â„2â€) of the front of the unit, 20cm (7 7â„8â€) from each side, and 10cm (4â€) from the back of the unit. Do not let children or pets touch it when it is hot.

I do have a big green chair that I moved to take the Pic. I will be in the chair tonight after I clean up from the snow today. Had 5†before I left for work today.

You all have brought up a good point THANKS! I will move the short stack tonight when I get home to about 48 inches then load the last ton on top. Tonight when I go to bed I will sleep good knowing that I have over 10 tons ready to keep the oil man away from my home OR that I move a ton of pellets today LOL.

oliveone,

Nice looking "beast" you got there. Sure looks toasty! :) I have a basement install and store my fuel close to the stove. Stick with the manual and you'll be fine. I do try to stay 4 feet plus away just to be safe.

On to the highlites from the qoute! You had 4 ton's before the first frost and you have definetly just pigged out some more. Please add something to your sig because you earned it! :)

Brews take up too much room get a nice bottle of Single Malt Scotch. Tast great less filling

Some folks would disagree with you but it's that the dues would need to be increased in order to stock some decent single malts.

Oliveone,

Thanks for posting the pictures.

We pigs can use them to show our significant others what a pellet stash SHOULD look like.

Just showed my wife and said, I think that I need to get more pellets.

Was pretty sure that you would get bashed for your stacks close to the stove.

Krooser posted a picture some time ago of his stove with a stack of pellets beside it and there was an enormous hue and cry from the pe;llet folks.

Nice stove.

Ranger

Yep, I see what you mean. manual says 4 ft. I err on the side of caution and store some bags in next room,
about 20ft away. 3 tons stored in garage. Was worried for safety sake.
