Hello and thanks for reading,

I have a Breckwell P28FS and it is working ok but is discontinued by Breckwell
some parts still available some not and No upgrade to digital board without gutting fans out etc;

I can get a Breckwell P2000fs for a fair price, but it will probably need a new board,so I would go to a digital board for it,All parts are available for this stove and accessories.

So my question is Live with Breckwell P28fs as is, Upgrade it by gutting it out spending about 400-500 bucks or Buy the Breckwell P2000 for 450.00 bucks and then get new digital board for it.

Please post your opinions,I trust all of your help

Matt

I am of the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality. If you are not having problems now, no need to spend $$$. I use a huge Xerox printer for my business that has been discontinued for many years. I can still get most parts if I need them so I will run it until it's toast :) At some point I'll have to give in and replace it but what's the rush? If you hold out longer, there may be an even newer model that you like better.

How about an other option, say locate a used P28FS on Craigslist, see it in action .... etc...

not sure I get ya smokey, I have a p28 its the p2000 I am contemplating. which the p2000 and the p28 are extremely similar

I would keep the p28. I have a fs2000 and I like it. If you need parts that are discontinued post what you need on hearth.com and you will be able to find replacement parts (not from Breckwell) that are like half the price and twice as good. Also what is the big problem with the analogue board? The digital boards are going bad all the time. Just my 2 cents. Good luck.

well as far as parts like the blowers, they are ebm's and very expensive. Like 300.00+ where as on the fs2000 you can get fasco for 50.00 and the caps are 150.00 each,no firebrick available for the p28.....the analog board is ok but no one has specs on it to adjust the feed rates etc,I cant find a soul that has any specs on it and the manual is useless and same goes for breckwell as they dont support that stove anymore and wont even answer questions on it.

The P2000fs is still being made with little changes to the older models. So because you can still get the parts for the P2000fs pretty easy. I'd steer to that model. Plus much easier to convert to the digital age controller. Facing the fact that its analog controller is no longer made. You will eventually need to convert to the digital controller.

Put the P28fs out on the classifieds to recoup some cash.

I did see a NOS analog controller on ebay. But it will not work on the P28's and a 4 RPM auger. Its only for the 1 RPM Breckwells.

I am still uncertain, there is pros and cons both ways

Is the 2000 new, or used? If used, what year is it? I have two P2000 inserts, love one, hate the other, which, for the 2nd time in 2 weeks, is in pieces on the living room floor, though I can't blame this issue on the stove (a small magnet somehow got into the hopper & jammed the auger, and got the gears in the auger motor out of alignment).

Our stoves were purchased from & installed by the same dealer, but a year apart - 2002 & 2003. The older stove has never, ever been a problem. It is used 24x7 from Nov. to April, except when off for cleaning. The igniter did finally burn out after we running 59 hours powered by our gas generator, during last winter's ice storm. I think the surge when we got electric back may have zapped it, as we also had several electric heat thermostats and a few light bulbs that were zapped, too.

The 2003 stove upstairs has been nothing but trouble, though. It's used daily from late Dec. - Mar., occasionally during Nov. & Apr., and it's often shut off overnight. Usually needs at least 1 thing replaced every year, so far we've replaced: 2 convection motors, 1 combustion motor, 3 control boards, 1 remote thermostat set up, 1 burnpot insert (burned a huge hole in the bottom after 2 seasons). This one also has a slightly warped door, so that it's never tight unless I use larger size gasket & spend an hour adjusting the hinges.

There are some slight differences between the design of the two stoves - clean out doors, burn pot, 1 rpm auger motor vs. 4 rpm, don't know if that's why the two have operated so differently. If I had it to do over, I probably would get Harmans - there are a heck of a lot more Harman dealers around here, most of them dropped Breckwell shortlly after we bought our stoves, so it's difficult to get service.

didnt buy the p2000 as it was in bad shape....
