i've got a clydesdale insert and thinking about buying a chimney brush and rods to sweep the liner myself but before i do i want to make sure i understand what all is involved.

the stove installer made it sound like you need to take some parts out of the stove so the creosote doesn't clog it up when sweeping. i assume i could also disconnect the liner and slide the stove out but that sounds like way too much work.

anyone know what parts need to be removed from the stove prior to sweeping and how hard it is to do so?

Try to remove the baffle above your burn tubes. It might come out without removing them. If not, you can prolly just remove one of them and get the baffle out....after that you can go about your merry way. Sometimes ,on some stoves , you have to remove all the burn tubes to get the baffle out...it depends on your stove.

I have the older model but it may be the same with the newer one as well. I take the soapstones from around all three sides out. Then the baffle on top will lift and angle enough to drop it down into the firebox. This leaves you with a straight shot at the liner. My screws that hold the baffle and secondary manifold in place are a little loose, and the manifold has slotted holes, so I can just reach in and lift up and out to get mine down. You may need to loosen the screws at the back edge of the manifold. They are clearly visible on the back wall of the stove from the inside. The two screws are allen head. The steel plates that hold the soapstones are slotted too so if the bolts aren't too tight they simply lift up as well. I didn't completely remove the manifold and baffle, I simply dropped it down enough to get in there with the vacuum to sweep it all out after sweeping the liner with the brush. Took about 20 minutes total including sweeping the liner. My roof is very easy to walk on and my liner is only 12' so it's an easy job for me. Wrestling the baffle can be a trick but just hold onto the secondary tubes and be careful of the fiber board.

On more thing... look in your manual. It gives a tip as to how to remove the baffle if you want to. You have to take it out at an angle. Also please note once you've removed the screws and are going to lift the baffle up and off its mount be careful... its heavier than you think!

But yes really not that difficult and saves you $150 for a sweep...
