Hi all,

My Mansfield has developed a problem w/ the door latch. When opening or closing the door, the latch now hits the bottom of the catch. I need to lift the door (gently) to settle the latch into the catch. Anyone have a fix, or seen this on their (especially Hearthstone) stoves?

Cheers!

Hey Tom,

Thanks! When they delivered the stove, they removed the door, and one washer popped out. We did find it after a long search - both are on the hinges, but the top hinge washer sits pretty flush with the pin and hinge - the bottom washer has about a 1/8 to 3/16 gap, where the pin is visible. I wonder if something happened there. Perhaps I should just order the new spacers and give it a shot. Thanks for your help!

Cheers!

Sometimes this happens when the door latch in the frame actually wears out, believe it or not. If this has happened, you must order a new door and frame, the are matched at the factory and will likely not match up if one or the other are ordered separately. Hopefully this is not the problem.

I sure hope not - first full year burning the stove! Good to keep in mind though! Do you mean that you can order a small section of the cast iron frame? You don't mean the whole frame do you? Cheers!

Yea, the whole door and frame, had to do this once this year. After only one year I doubt this is the problem, it's not really not too big of a deal, it's just money. ;-)

I have the smaller Heritage but I have replaced the side latch and the entire front frame because it was not catching right. I used regular old spacers to adjust the front after I replaced it(under warranty too). Call your dealer, they should be able to help Hearthstone latch issues are pretty common. When I replaced mine after one year, you could see the company had redesigned it(even though the dealer tried to tell me they had not)
